Phenolic compounds from Eucalyptus maculata.

From the chloroformic extract of the resinous exudate of the stems of Eucalyptus maculata, four phenolic constituents have been isolated. A new di-cinnamic acid glucose ester was isolated, in addition to cinnamic acid, 7-methyl aromadendrin and sakuranetin. The isolated compounds were elucidated using UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR and MS.

Chromatography, Thin Layer↗

cis-parthenolid-9-one from Anvillea garcinii.

The cis-isomer (2) of the previously isolated parthenolid-9-one (1) was isolated from Anvillea garcinii and the structures and relative stereochemistries of both were determined from NMR data in combination with single-crystal X-ray analysis. In vitro cytotoxicity and in vivo antitumor activity for both compounds are reported.

Antineoplastic Agents, Phytogenic↗

Pregnane glycosides from Caralluma russeliana.

The aerial parts of Caralluma russeliana yielded four new pregnane glycosides, russeliosides A-D (1-4), in addition to a known flavone glycoside, luteolin 4'-O-beta-D-neohesperidoside. The structures of compounds 1-4 were elucidated using a combination of spectroscopic methods.

Glycosides↗

Hirsutinolides from Vernonia cinerascens.

The aerial parts of Vernonia cinerascens, collected in Saudi Arabia, yielded a new hirsutinolide, together with three known lactones. The structure of the new compound was elucidated using, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 1H-1H COSY, 1H-13C HETCOR and HMBC.

Asteraceae↗

Iridoids from Teucrium yemense.

The aerial parts of Teucrium yemense yielded two iridoid glycosides. Their structures were elucidated by spectral means as teucardosid and 8-O-acetylharpagid.
