[Histopathologic and biochemical evaluation of the effect of cortisone on the liver in experimental post-alcoholic liver damage in the rabbit].

Possible protective effects of cortisone in experimental post-alcohol liver damage were evaluated in relation to dose and duration of treatment. Model examinations were undertaken in 100 rabbits divided into groups of 10. No protective effect of cortisone could be demonstrated. Treatment did not alter biochemical indices of liver function. Histologic examination revealed somewhat less extensive fatty changes following chronic alcohol exposure in animals receiving 1 mg cortisone per kilogram body weight.

[Effect of alcohol on the development of biochemical and morphologic findings of liver damage in the rabbit].

Ethanol 48% was applied to the experimental model in 3 examined groups of rabbits in different periods of administration and differentiated daily doses on order to investigate the influence of ethanol upon the formation of morphological and biochemical indices of the liver lesion. Biochemical investigations were carried out on 3 and 7 day of the experiment and repeated at week by intervalls. All the animals were dissected and morphological examinations of the liver were carried out. Total analysis of the results obtained of the biochemical and morphological examinations of the liver in 3 analysed groups of animals proved that the biochemical index of postalcoholic lesion of the liver was a rise in guanase activity, and not in activity aminotransferases. In the investigations of fat balance, however the increase of triglycerides and cholesterol was observed. Morphological examinations showed post-alcoholic lesions of the liver, especially intensified in animals under longlasting alcohol influence, but in reducted doses.

[Immunosuppressive treatment of chronic liver diseases in the clinical biochemical, immunological and histological evaluation of the liver].

The authors analysed the clinical states and the behaviour of clinical parameters in 36 patients with chronic liver diseases. The patients were treated with Encorton or Encorton associated with Imuran. The best clinical results as well as the tendency to normalisation were observed in the group of patients who were treated with Encorton and Imuran.

[Dynamics of the leukocyte migration inhibition test with HbS Ag during the acute phase of virus hepatitis b].

The authors analysed the dynamics of leukocytes migration inhibitory test and its prognostic aspects in 38 patient with viral hepatitis B. In the first group -- 19 patients with decreasing migration index in the first evaluation (mean value 0.44) it was observed the shorter time of the Hepatitis-BS-antigenemia with the normalisation of hepatic laboratory parameters in comparison to the second group -- 19 patients with normal migration index in the first examination (mean value 0.96). The authors discussed the prognostic meaning of leukocytes migration inhibitory test in the course of viral hepatitis type B.

[The behaviour of serotonin in blood, the activity of monoaminooxidase in serum and of 5-hydroxyindoloacetic acid in twenty-four hour urine in patients with viral hepatitis (author's transl)].

The level of serotonin in blood, the activity of MAO in serum and the value of 5-HIAA in 24 hour urine were estimated in 76 patients with viral hepatitis divided according to clinical parameters into three groups (mild, mild to severe and severe clinical course). A statistically significant increase of serotonin level in blood compared with the healthy control group was found. Highest values were observed in patients with the severe form of viral hepatitis. Decreased values of 5-HIAA in 24 hour urine in the early course of the disease showed a tendency to increase in later examinations. The activity of MAO in serum was significantly lowered in all clinical forms of viral hepatitis.

[Investigations in taeniasis patients on blood serum immunoglobulins IgG, IgA and IgM and blastic lymphocyte transformation after phytohaemagglutinin (author's transl)].

In 49 patients suffering from taeniasis caused by T. saginata, the serum levels of the immunoglobulins, IgG, IgA, and IgM as well as the blastic lymphocyte transformation due to phytohaemagglutinin were determined. The studies were performed prior to treatment (1st testing) and at day 7 following administration of Yomesan (2nd testing). The results obtained were statistically evaluated by comparison with the results of control studies in 20 healthy persons. A statistically significant lowering of the IgA and IgM levels and of the percentage of blastic cells following lymphocyte stimulation by phytohaemagglutinin was demonstrated to be present in the patients by the 1st as well as the 2nd testing.

[Plasmapheresis and amino acid mixtures of "Aminosteril-Hepa" type preparations in treating hepatic encephalopathy].

An effect of Aminosteril-Hepa intravenous infusions or plasmapheresis on selected amino acids, ammonia, alpha-aminonitrogen serum levels and serum GGTP activity was analysed in 28 patients with liver cirrhosis with and without hepatic encephalopathy. The patients were given protein controlled dietary treatment. It was found, that plasmapheresis exerted more potent effect on previously elevated ammonia and serum alpha-aminonitrogen levels as well as serum GGTP activity than intravenous infusions of Aminosteril-Hepa. It was clearly seen in patients with liver cirrhosis without hepatic encephalopathy. Aminosteril-Hepa intravenous infusions decreased serum glutamine levels to higher degree than plasmapheresis. Both types of therapy have had no significant effect on serum phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan levels in all patients.
