[Survey of the nutritional status of patients with locally advanced laryngo-pharyngeal tumors].

At the Department of Head and Neck Surgery of the Postgraduate Medical University the authors surveyed the nutrition state of 20 patients with stage III-IV locally advanced pharyngolaryngeal tumours. The control data were provided by 20 patients with benign lesions. It can be established that among the hematological and biochemical tests the studies of the N-balance, the serum transferrin as well as the antropometric measurements are objective markers of the protein-calory malnutrition of the cancer patients. The authors emphasize, however, that the immunological investigations need further purification.

Subsequent monoclonal gammopathies.

21 patients with 'subsequent' monoclonal gammopathies which developed after non-tumour or tumour states were studied. The cases were selected from 221 patients producing M protein, partly based on retrospective analysis and partly on data of case history, autopsy, histology, and immunochemistry obtained during continuous observation. Possible ways of development of immunoglobulin-producing monoclonal cell clones are also discussed.

[Angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy].

Cytological, histological and ultrastructural characteristics of a cose of an extranodal and nodal angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy persisting during several years are given. Angiomatous proliferation in the case reported seemed to be identical both in the lymph node and in the cutaneous infiltration. Types of cells seen in the angioimmunablastic lymphadenopathy did not differ from those of other immunoreactive processes. In the extranodal infiltrates in addition to other phenomena thickening of the immunological techniques decrease of the natural cytotoxicity and the number of T-lymphocytes could be observed.

Results obtained with combination therapy of VM-26, natulan and prednisolone in generalized Hodgkin's disease.

By evaluating the results obtained in 50 patients the authors stated that VM-26 given in combination with Natulan and Prednisolone is a drug of value in the therapy of generalized Hodgkin's disease. It cause milder side effects than drugs previously used in combination therapy. Complete or partial remissions were obtained in 84% of patients treated. 75% of the therapy-resistant cases proved to be Hodgkin's sarcoma by the postmortem examination. Remission lasted longer in stage III than in stage IV and the previously untreated patients responded better than the treated one. Definite correlation could not be revealed between histologic type and duration of remission.
