[The astrocyte glia of the brain in herpetic encephalitis in children].

Astrocytic changes were followed up in the brain of infants who had died of herpetic encephalitis. Neuro-morphological examinations revealed astrocytic structural changes directed to reinforcement of the blood-brain barrier, localization of the infection and, possibly, to inactivation of the virus.

[Morphologic diagnosis of vascular and senile dementia (the significance of Congophilic angiopathy)].

Brains were autopsied from 167 patients aged 70 to 91 that had senile dementia, vascular CNS lesions, these ailments combined, and mentally normal subjects. Cerebral Congophilic angiopathy was evidenced in all senile dementia patients with or without vascular CNS disease. The stage-by-stage amyloid formation was shown with regular involvement of the field 17. Pathogenesis of dysoric angiopathy is discussed. Of particular importance is the fact that cerebral Congophilic angiopathy did not develop in "pure" vascular CNS disorders.

[Formulation of clinical and pathomorphologic diagnoses in stroke].

The new principle of diagnosing acute brain blood supply damages is proposed after critical revision of modern wording and clinicopathological comparison of diagnoses in patients with brain stroke. Brain stroke (the type and localization of the brain damage) is proposed to be included into "the underlying disease" notion along with pathological process underlying the brain catastrophe but not to be considered as after-effect of the underlying disease. The revision recommended corresponds with the International Classification of Diseases and Death Causes.

[Correlation of the volume of the perineural oligodendroglia of the cerebral cortex with their RNA level].

The RNA content in the perineural oligodendroglia cells was studied with the help of cytophotometer in 6 humans aged from 75 to 85 in cortical fields 4, 10 and 21. The volume of oligodendrogliocytes in the third layer of fields 4, 10 and 21 is respectively equal to 55,6+/-1,25; 52,46+/-1,03 and 43,25+/-1,05 mum3. Since the RNA concentration in oligodendrogliocytes of any size has proved to be practically the same, the general amount of RNA per a cell of the oligodendroglia is directly proportional to its volume.
