Human subcutaneous dirofilariasis caused by Dirofilaria repens. Report of a case in Norway and review of recent literature.

A case of dirofilariasis in a Norwegian man is reported. The causal agent was identified as Dirofilaria repens Railliet et Henry, 1911. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report from a Scandinavian country on dirofilariasis caused by Dirofilaria repens. The infection was probably acquired in Majorca four years before it was diagnosed in Molde, Norway.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia, type III.

Multiple oral plexiform neuromas in a 14-year-old white girl prompting screening of the patient with respect to the multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type-III syndrome, verified the existence of a thyroid medullary carcinoma and the diagnosis MEN-type III. Total thyroidectomy was performed, but extensive tumour infiltration prevented radical tumour excision. The condition being relatively infrequent, the important life-saving role of dental practitioners and oral surgeons in its recognition and early diagnosis is emphasized.

Choriocarcinoma associated with thyrotoxicosis: a case report.

A woman with disseminated choriocarcinoma and with clinical and biochemical evidence of thyrotoxicosis is described. Only a few cases have been previously reported, and works are referred to showing that high levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) probably are responsible for the thyroid-stimulating activity in patients with trophoblastic disease and clinical signs of thyrotoxicosis.
