Unilateral renal oncocytoma: a case report.

A case of unilateral renal oncocytoma is reported. Diagnosis, clinical features and management of the tumour are discussed in the light of international literature. The value of angionephrography in the diagnosis of the tumour and in the preoperative planning of surgical therapy is emphasized.

Adenoma

[Functional and cosmetic results in thumb replacement surgery].

The operations to replace the thumb have been proved in thalidomide embryopathy both functionally and cosmetically. The best results are achieved in the pollicisation of dolichophalangeal triphalangeal thumbs. Simultaneously existing radial club hand impairs the operative results considerably.

Adolescent

[Biomechanical problems in acromio plasty of the shoulder joint (author's transl)].

In the confines of the spatium subacromiale, the anatomic structures are subjected to increased wear by friction and convolution. In case of compression syndromes relief is obtained by a partial resection of the acromion, by an acromio plasty, or by a complete removal of the acromion, i.e., the acromionectomy. By analysing the anatomic preparation we have found that a resection of the ligamentum coraco-acromiale and the anterior third of the acromion can give a sufficient decompression without any substantial disturbance of the mechanism of the shoulder girdle, while the acromionectomy implies an unnecessarily extensive procedure which involves considerable disadvantages for the biomechanics of the shoulder girdle.

Acromioclavicular Joint

[On a modification of the otis urethrotome (author's transl)].

A modification of the Otis urethrotome is presented and the technique of internal urethrotomy with this instrument is described. The instrument opens parallel, and the incision blade makes a cut in two directions possible. Special additional parts at the top of the instrument make the introduction easier. The unintentional stretching of the urethra by the extraction of a conical instrument is therefore avoided.

Humans

[Experience with percutaneous embolization of renal tumours (author's transl)].

We have repeated first observations of various authors of blocking angiography in 8 patients with renal tumours. Comparing angiographic findings and the surgical specimens, the success of embolization could be assessed. Control angiography 2 months following an inoperable renal tumor showed shrinking of the tumour by about one half and improvement of the general condition of the patient.

Adenocarcinoma

[On myositis ossificans localisata and its operative treatment (author's transl)].

We observed 52 patients with myositis ossificans localisata partly of a traumatic, neurogenic or morbid (inflammable) origin. The fact that preferably young men are concerned in cases of traumatic and neurogenic myositis ossificans localisata is certainly not only caused by their increased exposition to trauma, but also by disposition. For indication and operative treatment it is necessary to classify as well as radiologically III different stages of development as respective groups of muscles. In posttraumatic and neurogenic cases relapses post operationem may probably be avoided in case, there is a radiological stage III (total development of muscle ossification).

Adolescent

[Problems of treating the clubhand in dysmelia syndrome (thalidomide-embryopathy)].

In our follow-up examination of about 500 children suffering from thalidomide embryopathy we have studied the results of conservative and operative treatment of club hand. The results of treatment have not corresponded to the prognosis with regard to function. In our opinion the possibility of operative treatment should not be considered until growth of the ulna ceases.

Abnormalities, Drug-Induced

[Transurethral electroresection of prostatic adenoma (author's transl)].

The affliction of disturbances of the voidance of urine in aging men is becoming an ever more frequent medical problem because of the rising life expectancy of our population. The cause of the urinary obstruction is fibromyoadenomatosis of the paraurethral glands which may develop at any time after the age of 40. Transurethral electroresection ist the ideal method for the complete removal of a small to medium sized prostatic adenoma. Once the technique of resection has been mastered, complications are always absolutely avoidable and rare.
