[Quantitative behavior of pregnancy-specific beta glycoproteins (Sp1) in the amniotic fluid in normal and pathologic pregnancies].

SP1 levels of 150 amniotic fluid samples from 70 healthy gravidae and 63 gravidae suffering from different disturbances of pregnancy obtained between gestational weeks 16 and 42 have been estimated by means of the simple radial immunodiffusion method. For this end amniotic fluid has been tenfold concentrated by lyophilisation. SP1 concentrations increase gradually during pregnancy, but individual differences are wide especially at the end of pregnancy. The regression line ascends. In the average, the SP1 concentration of amniotic fluid is 1 per cent of the serum values. Cases of rhesus isoimmunization and EPH-gestosis are often correlated with high amniotic fluid levels of SP1. However, the diagnostic importance is restricted by a considerable overlap of the confidence intervals. The significance of amniotic fluid SP1 as an additional parameter for risk pregnancies is, nevertheless, to be discussed.

A whole body counter with an invariant response for whole body analysis.

A scanning 6-detector whole body counter is described. Its characteristics include good sensitivity, high energy resolution, good counting efficiency, geometric uniformity and localisation information of incorporated radioactivity using collimators. Problems such as band-width, calibration for air and phantom and measurements on patients, are discussed. The whole body counter is compared to other systems.

Evaluation of linear profile scans; mathematical treatment of line-spread functions.

The profile measurement capability of a scanning multidetector whole-body counter is described using line spread functions. Measurements in air and water phantoms, as a function of energy, are discussed in relationship to the relevant physical processes. A computer program for evaluating bodyprofile scans and an attempt to improve the resolution are reported.

[Proposal for an improved determination of liver size based on scintigraphy].

Using an own formula (VI) or the formula (VII) of Karran et al. for the determination of liver size from scintigrams, a good correlation was demonstrated to the measured weight in rats. Also the liver size of 44 healthy subjects estimated by the same method (VI) was compared to the ideal liver weight derived from the "Geigy Tables" and showed good correlation. This demonstrates the value of the proposed empirical formula: G equals 0.141 g/cm-3 D1 D2 D3 + 950 g for the calculation of liver weight using scintigraphy.
