[Assessment of a patient with idiopathic edema].

In view of the difficulties in diagnosis and the necessity of meticulous whole-day therapy supervised in detail by the physician over many weeks and which the patient could only bear with difficulty, inpatient treatment in a hospital specializing in edema nosology is always indispensable in such cases. On the other hand, the diagnosis developed by Dr. H. is wrong, and the therapy suggested is also ineffective and harmful.

[Basic rule of lymphology].

Apart from transmural (filterable and reabsorptive) effects, the four forces acting at the permutation vessels also have contramural (filling and compressive effects). The question is examined as to which factors limit the maximum possible reabsorption. Analysis shows that with a rise in tissue pressure up to the value at which the filling forces become equal to the compressive forces (the permutation vessel just remains open), a reabsorption is possible only up to the level of the double difference of the oncotic suction dependent on the protein content on the inside and the outside of the vessel wall. If the perivascular oncotic suction rises to that of the blood, the reabsorption falls to zero. The need for the lymphatic vessel system results automatically from this.

[Elevated platelet count-compensated thrombasthenia in a patient with Pelger's disease].

Thrombocytosis and thrombasthenia have been observed in a patient with Pelger's nuclear anomaly of the leukocytes. It was demonstrated with the platelet equivalent value and the retraction expressed in percent of the norm that the increased platelet count compensates the thrombasthenia. The retraction in the total system is therefore in the normal range.
