[Effects of repeated courses of electrostimulation and psychophysiologic correction on visual system characteristics in patients with poor vision of different genesis].

The effect of 5 courses of transcutaneous electrostimulation and of a combination of electrostimulation and psychophysiological correction of vision on the visual functions is assessed in 47 patients (90 eyes) with poor sigh of different genesis. Courses of 8-10-days were administered twice a year for 2.5-3 years. Cluster analysis of 13 objective and subjective parameters of vision permitted singling out patients responding to treatment well and poorly (groups 1 and 2). The absolute and differential electric activities of the central retina were increased during and between the courses in the first group while in the second group the shifts in the retina were negligible. Retinal changes are believed to reflect the general processes of adjustment of its activity to the levels needed for maintaining the integral visual functions, increased during treatment.

[Rehabilitation of patients with unilateral congenital microphthalmos].

The purpose of the present study was to develop a surgical treatment for congenital microphthalmos, by using the biomaterial Alloplant that causes an increase in eyeball sizes. There were 48 cases of unilateral congenital microphthalmos prior to surgery. The patients' age ranged from 2 to 14 years; the duration of follow-ups was 1 to 6 years. Data processing by parametric variance analysis indicated that there was an increase in the mean sizes of the anteroposterior and transverse axes (APA and TA) of the eye 2-3 years following surgery. With the use of the authors' method, the conjunctival cavity is not deformed and, on the contrary, after surgery it acquires a regular slit-like shape with vaults of sufficient depth, which upgrades the quality of prosthetic repair in future. The increases in the sizes (APA and TA) and volume of the eyeball not only just after surgery, but also in the late periods (up to 2-3 years) suggest that the developed operation using the biomaterial Alloplant triggers the mechanism of coordinated eyeball growth.

[Generalized transformation of subjective time assessment].

The subjects were given false information on the results of their estimation of time intervals in one of the experimental situations (they assessed time intervals filled up with different kinds of mental activity or free of them, as well as reproduced from memory 1-sec. interval). The observed changes in the accuracy of time estimation were typical of all situations, i.e. they were of generalized and coordinated character and pertained throughout 5 days. It is suggested that different specific forms of time perception typical of certain conditions form a unified system.

[Age and time estimation during different types of activity].

The study was concerned with the age characteristics of verbal and operative estimation of time intervals filled with different types of mental and physical activity as well as those free of it. The experiment was conducted on 85 subjects, 7--24 years of age. In all age groups and in both forms of time estimation (except verbal estimation in 10--12 years old children) there was a significant connection between the interval estimation and the type of activity. In adults and in 7--8 years old children, the connection was significantly tighter in operative estimations than in verbal ones. Unlike senior school children and adults, in 7--12 years old children there were sharp differences in precision between operative and verbal estimations and a discordance of their changes under the influence of activity. Precision and variability were rather similar in all age groups. It is suggested that the obtained data show heterochronity and a different rate of development of the higher nervous activity mechanisms providing for reflection of time in the form of verbal and voluntary motor reactions to the given interval.

[Surgical treatment of eyeball atrophy with biological implant material alloplant: the structure and time course of morphological and physiological changes].

The time course of changes in the size of the eyeball and in intraocular pressure (IOP) is analyzed in 50 patients with posttraumatic subatrophy of the eyeball subjected to surgical treatment making use of the Alloplant biological materials and followed up for at least 3 years. The methods of dispersion, factor, cluster, and discriminant analysis have been used. The phases of the initial (directly after surgery) and remote changes were distinguished; changes in the size of the eyeball virtually did not depend on changes in IOP. Typological groups (clusters) of dynamic changes in the size of the eyeball and IOP were distinguished.
