[The effects of cryopreservation and embryo transplantation on the arterial pressure value in HSIAH strain rats with hereditarily induced arterial hypertension].

Homogeneous transplantation of embryos tissue exerted no effect on arterial pressure in adult Wistar rats and slightly increased the pressure in ISIAH male rats. Transplantation of male embryos of the ISIAH strain to Wistar rats significantly increased the blood pressure in the male ISIAH rats. Female ISIAH rats seem to possess a mechanism restricting the upper limit of the blood pressure. Cryopreservation of the ISIAH embryos seems to be a potent procedure for decreasing the blood pressure in this strain of hypertensive rats.

Circadian adrenocortical periodicity changes in adult rats stimulated during early development--I. Effect of prednisolone.

The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of manipulating the adrenocortical circadian rhythm in adult rats by early postnatal prednisolone treatment. Prednisolone, when injected at 7-9 or 17-19 days after birth, produced a permanent suppression of the circadian rhythm of the basal levels of plasma 11-OH-corticosteroids and the rhythm of its responsiveness to stress. The administration of prednisolone at age of 2-4 or 12-14 days did not affect the circadian adrenocortical patterns in adults. Evidence was obtained for the existence of two critical periods during early development. Stimulation with prednisolone during these periods caused a profound modification of circadian periodicity in the performance of the pituitary-adrenocortical system. This modification was not related to changes in adrenal cortex ACTH responsiveness and also to altered stress reactivity of the pituitary-adrenocortical system. It was the presumable consequence of a blockage of a regulatory central mechanism initiating circadian variations in the pituitary-adrenocortical function. The existence of two distinct critical periods suggests that some prednisolone-sensitive links of this central pacemaker mechanism mature asynchronously during early postnatal life.

Circadian adrenocortical periodicity changes in adult rats stimulated during early development--II. Effect of cold stress.

Rats were cooled at different time points of early postnatal development to study the effects of short-term stress on the parameters of the circadian rhythm of the adrenocortical function in adults. It was found that rats stressed at the age of 2-4 or 17-19 days exhibit modified timing in the circadian periodicity of the adrenocortical function as adults. Cold stimulation during early development does not affect the function of isolated adrenal glands in vitro. It is concluded that the effect of early stress on the adrenocortical rhythmicity in adults is mediated through central regulatory mechanisms. This effect depends on the age when the rat pups are exposed to cold stress.

[Diurnal and seasonal rhythms of cerebral cortex activity during exercise].

The influence of the seasonal morning and evening exercises upon circadian rhythms of adrenocortical activity and some morphological and physiological data were studied. The exercise are seemed to synchronize circadian rhythms and adrenocortical activity. Moreover, it was shown that the exercise effect on circadian rhythms and adrenocortical activity depends both on the animals' day and night functional state and on the seasonal condition.

[Effect of stress in early ontogeny on the circadian rhythm of rat corticosteroid function].

The effect of short-term stress (cooling) during different periods of early ontogenesis on the characteristics of circadian rhythm of the corticosteroid function in adult animals were studied in the experiments with rats. The stressing of 2--4 and 17--19 days old rats was shown to modify the phase characteristics of circadian rhythm of the basal function of suprarenals in the adults. The circadian characteristics of reaction of the adults to stress suffered respective changes. The stimulation in the early ontogenesis did not affect the function of isolated suprarenals, thus suggesting that the changes in phase characteristics of circadian periodicity of the corticosteroid function are based on the influence of early stress effects on the regulatory system of this function. The pattern of early stress effects modifying the rhythm depends on the age of animals under stress.

[Effect of prednisolone injections in early postnatal ontogeny on the circadian rhythm of corticosteroid function in adult rats].

The effect of prednisolone injections during the early postnatal ontogenesis on the diurnal rhythm of corticosteroid function and stress reactivity in adult animals has been studied in rats. The injections of prednisolone to 7--9 days old rats resulted in the subsequent disturbance of diurnal rhythmicity in the suprarenal cortex functioning: the diurnal fluctuations of the content of 11-oxycorticosteroids in the blood plasma are smoothed out; the diurnal changes in the hormonal reaction to the stress stimulation disappear. This disturbance appears to be due to changes in the central mechanisms of the control of hypophysis-suprarenal system. The reactivity of this system per se suffered no changes.

Level of glucocorticoid hormones in early postnatal ontogenesis and circadian rhythms of endocrine-metabolic functions in adult rats.

The disturbance of the glucocorticoid balance in early postnatal ontogenesis (17-19 days) as the result of prednisolone administration has been shown to lead to partial suppression of circadian adrenocortical activity in adult rats. The circadian rhythm of FFA in these groups of animals was not detectable and the circadian acrophase of blood glucose concentration changed, while diurnal urine periodicity remained unchanged. The diurnal rhythm of locomotor activity in prednisolone-pretreated rats was characterized by a later onset of increase in its activity and a shorter duration.
