[Effects of impulse hydrodynamic influences on blood cells in vitro and in vivo].

Impulse hydrodynamic influences (IHDI) resulted in an increase of accumulation of acridine organ, degranulation of neutrophils, decrease in adenylate cyclase and Na+, K+, Mg2(+)-dependent ATPase activities in the white blood cells of man and rat in vitro and in vivo. It was found that the cell's response to one-fold IHDI was more pronounced than to 5-fold IHDI. It was suggested that in certain conditions IHDI could lead to a decrease in reactivity of white blood cells.

[Effect of treatments of different modalities on the nucleoside phosphate kinase activity of normal and neoplastic cells].

The activity of nucleoside phosphate kinases was studied in experimental transplantable tumours under chemotherapy, in the liver of normal rats treated with hepatocarcinogens, or in human lung tumours after irradiation. The above factors have been found to increase the activity of uridine phosphate kinase, reducing at the same time the activity of thymidine phosphate kinase. The data suggest the existence of an unknown regulatory mechanism responsible for the normal levels of uridylates and thymidylates, thymidine kinase and uridine kinase shunt.

[N-acetyltransferase activity during growth of the transplantable Pliss lymphosarcoma and during pregnancy in rats].

Study of the distribution of female noninbred rats according to N-acetyltransferase activity has permitted the conclusion to be derived that the animals may have a "slow", "intermediate" and "fast" phenotype of acetylation. It was discovered that the rate of N-acetyltransferase activity increased 1.5-2-fold on days 12 and 15 after transplantation of Pliss's lymphosarcoma. The time course of changes in N-acetyltransferase activity was characterized by individual features. The pattern of changes in N-acetyltransferase activity in pregnancy was dependent on the initial acetylation phenotype: in animals with a "slow" and "intermediate" phenotype of acetylation, the activity ascended by the 21st day of pregnancy, whereas in animals with a "fast" phenotype of acetylation, it declined.

[Acid phosphatase isoenzyme composition of the lysosomes of normal and tumor cells].

Heterogeneity of acid phosphatase in lysosomes of the rat's liver and the Zhaidel hepatoma was studied by the DEAE-cellulose chromatography. It is found that different substrates are hydrolyzed by different molecular forms of the enzyme. It is suggested that variability in the increase of the enzyme activities, measured with different substrates under alteration of lysosomes, may be due to the heterogeneity of molecular forms of acid phosphatase.

[Effect of pulsed laser radiation on the lysosomes of Ehrlich ascitic tumor cells].

The results of a study on the effect of neodymium pulsed laser radiation on Ehrlich ascites tumor lysosomes are discussed. Tumor cell suspension was exposed in vitro to 10 pulses of laser irradiation with fluences of 10, 25 and 100 J/cm2, at a wavelength of 1.06 microns and a pulse duration of 1 microsecond. A rise in the free and total activities of acid phosphatase in the fraction of isolated lysosomes was registered one or four hours after exposure, particularly, at fluences of 10 and 25 J/cm2. However, laser radiation did not affect acid phosphatase activity in preparations of solubilized enzyme. Special experiments involving the use of detergents showed the increased activity of acid phosphatase in isolated lysosome fraction to be due to labilization of cytoplasmic membranes of tumor cells.

[Experimental data to substantiate the antitumor action of hydrazine sulfate].

It was found that under the influence of hydrazine sulfate, which in the dosage of 60 mg/kg would induce a 50% suppression of Walker carcinosarcoma in rats, there is the decreased activity of mitochondrial monoamine oxidase and a sharp reduction in the activity of some microsomal phosphatases. Vitamin B6 injection some hours before injecting hydrazine sulfate lessens the rate of suppression of the tumor growth up to 50%. The results obtained indicate that the antitumor effect of hydrazine sulfate may be related to the suppressed monoamine oxidate activity and vitamin B6 deficiency.

[Analysis of substances issuing from Zajdela ascitic hepatoma cells following exposure to UV radiation of different wavelength. II. Proton release].

The release of protein from the Zaidela ascitic hepatoma cells following irradiation with physiological doses of short-wave (254 nm) and long-wave (300--380 nm) UV light (far and near UV radiation) has been investigated. The amount of protein increases with dose making, upon the maximal radiation damage, 180 and 2 per cent of the protein against, resp., the protein amount releasing from non-treated cells and the total protein of the intact cell. The far UV light is by one order more efficient than the near UV light. Irradiation of cells with the former and the latter results in the release of high and low molecular proteins, resp. The near UV irradiation brings about heavier releasing of proteins than does the far UV light.

[Effect of 5-fluorouracil and thiophosphamide on the activity and fractional content of phosphatases of Zajdela hepatoma].

The administration of different types of antitumor drugs is found to lead to a decrease in total activity of phosphatases in mitochondrial, lysosomal and microsomal fraction of Zajdela hepatoma cells, the free activity being enhanced. The isoenzyme pattern of phosphatases in soluble fraction is influenced too. The results suggest that different antitumor drugs cause a uniform response in tumor cells, manifested in disorders in the protein synthesizing system and membranes of subcellular particles involved.

[Effect of polyethylene glycols of linear structure and different molecular weights on rat liver lysosomes].

The action of nonionic detergents--polyethyleneglycols of the linear structure with various molecular weight (from 700 to 15 000) on the lysosomes of rat liver was studied. Triton X-100 activated the acid phosphatase of the sum total fraction of lysosomes to a greater degree than the rest of the polyethyleneglycols. The action of polyethyleneglycols on the activation of acid phosphatase in the lysosome subfractions was inconstant. The result obtained is explained from the aspect of the morphological and biochemical heterogeneity of lysosomes. On the basis of comparison of personal data and literature data a supposition is put forward that the resistance of lysosomes to the action of the polyethyleneglycols in vitro and in vivo was the same.
