[Carcinoid of the larynx].

Laryngeal carcinoid with metastases to cervical lymph nodes was observed in a patient of 62. The diagnosis was confirmed by electron-microscopic study. The patient was followed up for 9 mos without any evidence of recurrence and metastases after laryngectomy and fascial envelope excision of cervical fat. The morphologic picture of laryngeal carcinoid is characterized by the presence of the alveolar, trabecular and teniform structures consisting of monomorphic and moderately polymorphic cells. Tubular and rosette-like structures occur. The overlying epithelium is intact. The necrotic foci, as a rule, are absent. Grimelius reaction is positive, argentaffinnic granularity isn't revealed. Electron-microscopic study demonstrates endocrine-type granules. The need for recognition of laryngeal carcinoid is explained by the fact that this tumour form has a more favourable course and prognosis in comparison to cancer.

[Reaction of cellular-tissue components of osteogenic sarcoma to the combined action of adriamycin and irradiation].

The study was concerned with the analysis of peculiarities of pathomorphism development in osteogenic sarcoma under different therapeutic modalities. Material was obtained from 229 cases of tumor treated within 1955-1981. Electron microscopic examination of tumor was performed in 20 patients who had had no preoperative treatment and in 3 patients who had received adriamycin intraarterially and distant 60Co teletherapy (total focal dose 36 Gy) prior to surgery. Chondroid zones revealed posttreatment changes similar to spontaneous ones. Degenerative changes displayed by cells of osteo- and fibroplastic zones differed from spontaneous ones. They manifested themselves in the development of "posttreatment forms" with signs of lipophanerosis and hyperpermeability of nuclear and cytoplasmic membranes resulting in cell edema. Rupture of membrane pointed to an irreversible character of cell damage.

[Morphological characteristics of osteogenic sarcoma after chemo-and radiotherapy].

Adriamycin was administered intraarterially and the tumor was irradiated at a total focal dose of 3600 rad in the preoperational period in 25 children suffering from osteogenic sarcoma. Histological examinations of the tumors revealed marked necrobiotic, necrotic and sclerotic changes. Within 2 months after the beginning of the therapy the number of tumor cells decreased, they were localized predominantly in the peripheral parts of the extraosseal component. Later in the same areas new generations of tumor cells were found. In 3 cases tumor cells were completely absent. The results suggest the efficacy of adriamycin in combination with radiation therapy in treatment of osteogenic sarcoma.

[Study of bone tissue structure using polarized Raman spectra].

Polarized Raman spectra of bone tissue were obtained as well as of collagen fibres of the mouse tail tendon and oxyapatite crystals. It is shown that polarized Raman spectra permit to obtain information on spatial orientation of collagen fibres and oxyapatite microcrystals in various parts of the bone tissue. A laser Raman microprobe "Mole" was used to take Raman spectra measurements from the area of several square micrones. It is shown that in the diaphis osteon of human femur the collagen fibres and crystallographic axis C of oxyapatite crystals are directed along the long axis of the bone in the direction of the main mechanical loads on it.
