[The influence of prolonged transthoracic microelectrostimulation on the course of myocardial infarction].

The subjects of the study were patients with acute myocardial infarction, who underwent prolonged transthoracic microelecrostimulation. The procedure had certain immediate effects, such as antinociceptive, anxiolytic, hypotensive, and somnific effect, lead to positive emotional shifts and substantial decrease of the degree of circulatory insufficiency, and to positive ECG dynamics. It also had long-time effects, such as positive myocardial remodeling, manifesting in the stabilization of end diastolic volume, lowering of end systolic volume and thus increase of ejection fraction, according to EchoCG results. The article substantiates the influence of transthoracic microelecrostimulation on the healing of infarcted myocardium.

[Treatment of infantile cerebral paralysis using transcraniovertebral microelectric stimulation].

A new method of therapy of children with cerebral palsy (CP) has been elaborated. Transitory consequent action of weak bipolar low-frequency current (30-100 mcA, 2-10 Hz) on different levels of motor activity regulation (brain and spinal cord, effectory organs) resulted in a stable correction of both motor and other types of disorders in CP patients. Therapeutic course included 2-8 procedures, 1-2 weekly, their duration 3-5 minutes. Depending on the reaction on the transcraniovertebral microelectrostimulation (MES) the patients were divided into fast and slow reactive groups. Different reaction of the children to MES reflected, probably, a variety of pathogenetic CP mechanisms and a mosaic of cerebral damage. Corrective MES action on the patients' brain was polysystemic and was, probably, based on the changes in integral brain mechanisms, voluminous transmission and homeostasis of brain, in particular.

[Opiate-like peptides with primary structure different from that of enkephalins].

Some new opiate-like peptides originating from opioid peptide precursors, dinorphine, histone H2b, major myeline protein, natriuretic atriopeptide and from the immunomodulating protein splenin whose primary structure differs essentially from that of enkephalins are described. Being intracysternally injected to mice, all the peptides under study caused a naloxone-sensitive analgetic effect as could be judged from the tail pinch tests. The effects of some opiate-like peptides were much stronger than that of leu-enkephalin. According to their primary structure, the opiate-like peptides can randomly be allocated into two families. Dipeptide Lys-Arg and free arginine also possess a marked analgetic activity which is abolished by naloxone. It seems likely that the epiate-like activity of the peptides under study is due to the similarity of their secondary and ternary structure to that of enkephalins of to their involvement in the regulation of opioid peptide metabolism.

[Block principle of organization and polyfunctional nature of regulatory peptides].

Study on the primary structure of more than 100 regulatory peptides was carried out with the view of determining their structural similarity. Practically all regulatory peptides appeared to be related to each other. One regulatory peptide can bear similarity to several regulatory peptides (RPs) which is realized by different fragments. The structural similarity of RPs was in some cases unexpected, e. g., somatocrinin-thymosin, secretin-endorphin, etc. Gastro-intestinal peptides were related to most RPs. It seems likely that these peptides are the most ancient ones among RPs.

[Pharmacological effect of exogenous histones on muscles].

Different histone fractions contain sequences homologous to those of several regulatory peptides. All the histone fractions demonstrated dose-dependent positive chronotropic effect in spontaneously contracting rat atrial preparations. The range of their activity was as follows: H4 greater than H1 greater than H2a much greater than H3. Synthetic COOH-terminal histone H4 pentapeptide (historphin) Tyr-Gly-Phe-Gly-Gly demonstrated opioid activity by inhibiting electrostimulated guinea-pig ileal contractions. It is suggested that some biological activities of histones are related to the presence of regulatory peptide sequences in their structure.
