Thirty patients (18 males and 12 females) with dermatophytoses were treated with itraconazole. Twenty-eight patients received 100 mg per day for 14 days, and two patients, one with tinea pedis and one with tinea manuum, were treated for 28 days. Thirty patients (11 males and 19 females) with pityriasis versicolor were treated with 200 mg of itraconazole. for five days. Half of the patients received the 200 mg in one dose, and the other half received 100 mg twice a day. Twenty-nine of the 30 patients with dermatophytoses were clinically and mycologically cured, and one patient was improved. All 30 patients with pityriasis versicolor experienced complete clinical and mycologic cure; no difference was noted between the two groups. Ten of the 60 patients treated reported adverse reactions to therapy. The primary adverse effects were nausea and epigastric pain; one patient had diarrhea. There were no alterations in the patients' blood biochemical values. These results suggest that itraconazole is safe and effective for the treatment of dermatomycoses.

Cutaneous fibrinolytic activity was found to be increased in a patient with aquagenic pruritus both before and after contact with water. This could explain the lack of wheal formation in this affection, which is characterized by increased histamine release.

Eighteen patients with psoriatic arthritis were treated for 48 hours with an infusion of somatostatin 250 micrograms/hr diluted in a 5% glucose solution. This therapy led to a reduction of joint pain and satisfactory clearing of cutaneous lesions immediately after treatment in eight patients, less marked results in four, and null in four. Two patients were dropped from the study because of negative side effects during administration of the drug. Fifteen days after treatment, the clearing of lesions and joint pain reduction were even more pronounced. The most encouraging results were obtained on erythrodermic and large plaque psoriasis and on the polyarticular involvement. We suggest that the use of this drug, whose side effects are discussed, should be limited to patients with polyarthritis showing severe cutaneous involvement.
The present possibilities of clinically evaluating cell-mediated immune potential using skin reactivity to microbial protein antigens (streptokinase-streptodornase; tuberculin; formalin-killed parotitis virus) together with a contact sensitized such as dinitrochlorobenzene are examined. A single evaluation index for the set of cutireactions is proposed and, as a practical example, the delayed hypersensitivity data based on intradermal and patch tests in 41 cases of primary malignant tumor of the ovary are reported. There is a definite correlation between immune impairment and cancer spread, with a survival prognosis value even in initial cases.
