The Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome in a six year old boy.

A 6 year-old boy who has many of the physical manifestations of the Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome has been reviewed regularly because of the increased risk of developing intra-abdominal neoplasms, hormonal and biochemical disorders and facial deformity.

Sagittal genioplasty: a new technique of genioplasty.

A new technique for performing genioplasties is described. Antero-posterior and vertical deformities of the chin can be corrected and because a large surface area of bone remains in contact under compression following the osteotomy, a stable osteosynthesis is achieved. Access for fixation, using either wires or leg screws, is good and this feature, combined with the mechanical advantage obtained from the osteotomy cuts, contributes to great stability. The technique is safe, since there is minimal periosteal stripping; the bone cuts avoid the mental nerves and the mobilised bony chin retains a vascularised muscle pedicle.

Evaluation of the morphanalysis machine in a clinical setting.

The experience of installing and using an Analytical Morphograph in a plastic surgical clinical setting is described. Initial problems have been resolved in safety and routine functioning. Although we have not managed to obtain the consistency of results claimed in the research field we have found the unit useful in the pre-operative, operative and follow-up phases of clinical patient management.
