Tuberculosis isolated to the spleen is a rare clinical entity particularly in the non-HIV-positive patient population. In the four patients described, two presented with thrombocytopenia; in two patients the condition was diagnosed serendipitously at laparotomy undertaken for abdominal trauma.
Gastric tuberculosis is an uncommon clinical entity. Great difficulty is encountered in making the pre-operative diagnosis. Other chronic granulomatous conditions (Crohn's disease, sarcoidosis and isolated granulomatous gastritis) should always be considered. Surgery, with postoperative antituberculosis treatment, remains the main modality for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
