[Functional intestinal dyskinesias].

The authors relate the results of examining 120 patients with functional disorders of the colon. The majority of the patients manifested diverse mental abnormalities of the neurotic origin, represented by different patterns of mental pathology, somatized disturbances, neuroses and psychopathies. The conditions favouring the origin of neurotic and functional disorders have been elucidated. It is concluded from the comparison of different treatment modalities that psychotherapy may be preferred.

Age Factors↗

[Psychosomatic correlations in patients with functional disorders of the colon].

Basing on comprehensive clinical investigations of 50 patients with colon dysfunction, relevant somatic and psychological aspects have been analysed. Colon dysfunction in shown to attend neurotic and personality disorders, to be in some cases a somatoform manifestation of endogenic depression. The majority of the patients had psychogenic neurotic affections closely related to colon dysfunction which is considered a psychosomatic pathology.

[Neurotic development in the clinical picture of stuttering].

On the basis of a clinical study of neurotic development in 79 patients suffering from stammering, the authors present a psychopathological analysis of the polymorphic picture of the disease with stable neurotic and pathocharacterological disturbances and with the presence of peculiar superworship formations. Five clinical variants of the neurotic development in stammering have been identified: astheno-depressive, sensitive, superworshiphypochondriac, obsessive-phobic and hysterical. The formation of the neurotic development is considered in the ontogenetic aspect. The authors analyze a complex interrelationship of constitutional, evolutional-biological and psychogenic factors.

[Residual states in the clinical picture of neuroses].

A study of the clinical picture of residual disturbances in 90 patients with various forms of neuroses showed that residual neurotic states are a regular stage of the timecourse of protracted neuroses with a favourable course. At this stage the differences between individual forms of neuroses become less conspicuous. Mild, fragmented clinical manifestations are presented in the form of two types: a monosymptomatic and a more complicated polysymptomatic one. The latter type of residual states is more dynamic which is reflected in both a tendency to their reduction and transformation into a monosymptomatic state and a possibility of a neurotic relapse.

Asthenia↗

[Gentamicin concentration in the blood and lung tissue of children with bronchopulmonary pathology].

The gentamicin levels in the lung tissue and blood serum of children operated on for bronchiectasis, destructive pneumonia and pleural tumors were studied. The antibiotic was administered intramuscularly in a dose of 3 mg/kg before the operation. The results showed that intramuscular injections of gentamicin provided the antibiotic levels in the lung tissue sufficient for the growth inhibition of the majority of the microbes isolated from such patients. In the patients with congenital developmental defects of the lungs, the level of the antibiotic in the lung tissue 1 hour after its administration was lower than the therapeutic one, while its blood serum levels were high. By the 2nd hour the gentamicin levels in the lung tissue reached those in the patients with acquired bronchopulmonary disease.

[Clinical aspects of the residual disturbances in a favorable course of obsessive neurosis].

Using the clinico-catamnestic method the authors examined residual neurotic states in 36 patients with a history of obsessional neurosis. The residual neurotic disorders manifested psychopathologically in the form of isolated rudiments of the obsessive-phobic syndrome combined frequently with some effaced vegetative, asthenic, and affective disturbances. Despite their inertness and many-year persistence the residual neurotic disorders showed a tendency to subsidence. Clinical differentiation between the residual states on the one hand, and neurotic development, slowly-progressing schizophrenia, and cyclothymia with obsessions on the other was carried out.
