[Immunological aspects of pathogenesis of stomatological constructional materials intolerance].

In blood and the mixed saliva of patients with intolerance of stomatologic constructional materials the maintenance of cytokines, factors of humoral answer were investigated. It was established, that in formation of intolerance the increased sensitivity stomatologic constructional materials which is not connected to allergic reaction of immediate type and is, apparently, pseudoallergic or develops on other type. There is an activation of the local immune answer including local synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines, sIgA and hyperactivation of complement system to formation of C3a component. Toxic and allergic action of stomatologic constructional materials grows in patients having antibodies to Candida albicans in the mixed saliva.

[The levels of T lymphocytes and thymic peptide antibodies in patients with infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis and in those with cancer diseases].

A relationship of the levels of thymic peptide antibodies to those of the population and subpopulations of T lymphocytes was studied in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, lung or breast cancer. Indirect immunofluorescence was used to determine the count of CD3-, CD4-, CD80, CD38-, CD25-, CD71-, and CD95-lymphocytes. The levels of thymic peptide antibodies were estimated by enzyme immunoassay. Unlike cancer diseases, pulmonary tuberculosis was characterized by the combination of a significantly inverse correlation between the relative count of CD3-, CD4-, CD8-lymphocytes the levels of thymogen antibodies with a significantly direct correlation between the absolute count of CD25- and CD38-lymphocytes. The studies may recommend that the levels of thymic peptide antigens should be determined to select persons with immunodeficiency particularly those with inflammatory diseases.

[Antibodies to mycobacterial antigens in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis].

The levels of IgG and IgM antibodies to different mycobacterial antigens were studied in patients with varying pulmonary tuberculosis. The higher levels of IgG and IgM to the used antibodies were simultaneously found in patients with infiltrative tuberculosis as compared with healthy individuals. As compared to patients with fibrocavernous pulmonary tuberculosis, those with infiltrative tuberculosis had significantly lower levels of IgG antibodies to BGC sonicate and protein with a molecular weight of 40-70 kD isolated from the strain H37Rv. A correlation was found between the IgM antibodies to protein isolated from the strain H37RV and to H37RV sonicate and the degree of the activity unique to fibrocavernous pulmonary tuberculosis.

[Levels of some cytokines in infants with central nervous system damage].

Two cytokines--interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels have been studied in infants with CNS damage of different severity. The more was the brain lesion severity, the higher the TNF-alpha level increased. IL-1 beta levels were reduced significantly in severe brain injury caused by hypoxia. Chronic hypoxia combined with intrauterine infection and/or a risk of the latter was accompanied by imbalance of IL-1 beta and TNF-alpha secretion.

[Neurophysiologic mechanisms of the disorders in recognition of emotions in endogenic depression].

In 46 male patients with endogenic depressions of different nosology (22 patients with affective disorder, 24 with juvenile slow-progredient schizophrenia) and 22 healthy individuals (a control group) visual evoked potentials (EPs) were registered during recognition of emotionally positive, negative or neutral facial expression. It was found that deficient recognition of emotions in depressions was determined by alteration of different stages of information analysis. In inferio-temporal and occipetal cortical areas the Eps revealed delayed primary analisis of visual information and reduction of components responsible for classification stage and decision making. In anteriocentral cortical areas only late stages of analysis were altered, and they were depending on nosology of depressive sindrom. Dynamics of topographic maps revealed disturbance of analysis in the right hemisphere in patients with affective disorders and in left hemisphere in schisophrenics. In both groups of patients deficit of interhemispheric transfere was found.

[Neurophysiologic correlations of cognitive dysfunction in depressed patients with syndrome of juvenile asthenic deficiency].

Peculiarities of cognitive process were studied in 34 right-handed endogenously depressed patients with "juvenile asthenic deficiency" ("endogener juveniler Versagensyndrome" according to J. Glatzel and G Huber, 1968) by means of visual evoked potentials (EP) in the emotional recognition task. Two control groups consisted of 19 healthy individuals and 20 patients with other types of depressions. The main and control groups were matched for age, sex, handedness and education level. Compared to controls the patients with "juvenile asthenic deficiency" demonstrated highly significant alterations in indices of EP late negative wave in anterior areas of the left hemisphere which related to neither the nosology of "juvenile asthenic deficiency" (cyclothymia, schizophrenia) nor the types of dominant cognitive disorders. Dependence on both nosology and clinical subtype of asthenic deficiency was found only for separate characteristics of earlier EP waves. The results suggest the disturbance of the final stages of information processing and the decision making specific for "juvenile asthenic deficiency".

[The recognition of the facial expression of emotions by patients with endogenous depression (clinico-psychophysiological research)].

The recognition of facial emotional expression in depressed patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and slow progressive schizophrenia (SPS) in acute state and in remission was studied in comparison with healthy persons. All the subjects were right-handed. The drawings of sad, neutral and happy faces followed by masking stimulus were displayed in the center field and in the left or right hemifield of vision on the computer screen for 80 ms. All the depressed patients revealed marked impairment of facial emotion recognition, especially for negative on, and disturbances of hemisphere asymmetry. There were some differences between MDD and SPS patients. The MDD patients showed more significant impairment of emotion recognition and right hemisphere disfunction. The SPS patients were less impaired and revealed mild worsening in the left hemisphere only. In remission MDD patients showed a significant improvement of emotion recognition contrary to SPS patients who failed to recover this function. The revealed emotion recognition disturbances in MDD patients are supposed to be dynamic, whereas in depressed patients with SPS it is considered to be a trait feature.

[Changes in circadian rhythm of various physiological functions in depression].

Analysis of the daily dynamics of some physiological and psychoemotional characteristics in healthy subjects and depressed patients has demonstrated the patients to have circadian rhythm disorders in functions, namely inversion of the daily gradient with the shift of the function optimum to the second half of the day. The depressed patients manifested a high daily variability of the physiological parameters. It should be mentioned that curable conditions were marked by a higher variability as compared to those resistant to the treatment. The latter circumstance permits regarding the ratio of function variability as a potential predictor.

[Emotional reactivity of patients with depression].

Emotional reactivity of patients with endogenous depression and healthy test subjects towards classic and rock music was compared. According to the questionnaire data and EEG recording, it was established that in depressed patients, analysis and estimation of the emotionally significant information differ from those in healthy persons. In contrast to normals, the classic music exerts an activation effect on the patients whereas rock music evokes negative emotions. Analysis of the time-course of changes in the EEG points to alterations in the system of nonspecific activation in depressions.

[Neurophysiologic changes during the treatment of endogenous depression by reflexotherapy].

Superficial EEG and visual evoked potentials (EP) were studied in 28 patients with endogenous depression treated with reflexotherapy in order to study the neurophysiological correlates of its therapeutic action. A stepwise development of reflexotherapeutic effect was determined. The first stage is that of unspecific activation EEG and EP changes correlating with activating and stimulating clinical effects. At the 2nd stage clinical improvement with proportional reduction of all the components of depressive syndrome run parallel to the normalization of neurophysiological indices.

[Toxic-allergic and viral hepatitis in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis].

Forty four patients with various forms of pulmonary tuberculosis in association with virus hepatitis B (21) and toxic-allergic hepatitis (23) were followed up in the time course of the diseases. There was a marked clinical similarity between toxic-allergic hepatitis and virus hepatitis B which differed in their qualitative indices and duration. Differential diagnosis of virus hepatitis B and toxic-allergic hepatitis was possible on the basis of the clinical signs and routine tests: determination of bilirubin and its fractions in blood, estimation of activity of alanine and aspartate aminotransferases and case follow-up with an account of the epidemiological situation.

[Background and evoked activity of visual cortex neurons of a mutant strain of mice].

Background and evoked activities of visual neurons were studied in mice with hereditary microphthalmia ("ocular retardation", "or/or"). Phenotypical action of the "or" gene manifested itself in underdevelopment of the optical nerve followed by full blindness of the animal. Control experiments were carried out on C57Br mice. Higher level of background activity in neurons of mutant animals as well as differences in distribution of neurons according to the type of background activity were found. In the "or/or" mice regularly firing neurons were 2.5 times as frequent while bursting cells were 2.7 times as seldom as in the control group. Mutant mice cells were more reactive to sounds. Their responses to sound and cutaneous stimulation were usually tonic and mostly of excitatory nature. Convergence of heterogeneous afferent signals was demonstrated for 42% of mutant mice cells. It is suggested that these functional properties are phenotypical manifestations of mutant gene action on cortical neurons.
