[The release of biologically active substances from blood leukocytes in allergic diseases].

Elevated spontaneous liberation of biologically active substances from the peripheral blood leukocytes was revealed in 42% of children suffering from various allergic conditions. This liberation was particularly marked during the disease exacerbation and in grave forms of allergies in the patients with elevated serum IgG levels and in those with bronchial hyperreactivity. Liberation of biologically active substances was more often recorded in schoolchildren than in preschool children. Membrane stabilizers (intal and zaditen) were more effective in the patients with elevated liberation of biologically active substances. The authors have analyzed the conditions of tests for spontaneous liberation of biologically active substances and some characteristics of these biologically active substances.

[Recording of the free calcium content of the peripheral blood leukocytes in allergic diseases in children].

Flow cytometry was used to analyse the free calcium content in leukocytes of peripheral blood in children with allergic diseases, both before and after contacting with allergens and mediators of anaphylaxis. Computer analysis with a special mathematical program was used to evaluate the gravity-centre coordinate of the histograms obtained. More than a 10% shift to the right on the X-axis was diagnosed as an increased sensitivity of peripheral blood cells to the allergens or mediators of anaphylaxis. Good correlations were obtained between our data and different provocation tests, usually used in practical allergology.

[Treatment of septic conditions in children using perfusion through a pig donor spleen].

A technique of perfusion through pig donor spleen has been described with regard to peculiarities of the young age. Good therapeutic effect was observed during 12 splenoperfusions performed to 8 patients with septic conditions aged 12 days to 14 years. The technique suggested is simple and can be used under adequate anesthesiologic supply in children's hospitals.

[A method for diagnosing allergy by studying eosinophil morphology].

A total of 107 children with various clinical manifestations of food allergy were examined to investigate the morphological changes of eosinophils under the effect of food allergens. Eosinophil "injury" caused by cow milk allergen was detected in 71.4%, that caused by hen egg white in 82.4%, and that under the effect of fish in 77.8% of the examinees, these data being useful as a laboratory test for the diagnosis of food sensitization. Correlation between the index of eosinophil injury and late reactions to cow milk, as well as increased reactivity to nonspecific stimuli were traced.
