[Effect of a change in posture on the diurnal variations of fructosamine concentration in diabetic patients].

Daily profiles of blood glucose, HbA1c, total protein and fructosamine were measured in 10 diabetic patients and the factor fructosamine x 7/g total protein was calculated. Measurements were done at 4 a.m. to be sure that the patients were sleeping for some time, during the day and the following evening at 11 p.m., when the patients were lying again, so that the influence of orthostasis, the difference between bed rest and walking could be demonstrated. The blood glucose profile was typical whereas the HbA1c concentration was very stable and constant. Total protein and fructosamine increased significantly by orthostasis; the correction of fructosamine by total protein diminished the differences, but did not completely eliminate the effect of orthostasis. However, fructosamine should be corrected by the total protein concentration in order to increase the diagnostic value of the parameter.

[New instrument for blood glucose determination. Results of a clinical trial of the Reflocheck].

Reflocheck, a new microprocessor-regulated apparatus determining blood sugar levels was tested in six laboratories. In the range of 20-450 mg/dl the apparatus gave precise results (co-efficient of variance 0.8%-6.4%), in good agreement with results by the hexokinase method. Reflocheck is an accurate and reliable instrument for the measuring of blood glucose levels.

Blood Chemical Analysis

[Application of ROC analysis to evaluating different methods of skeletal scintigraphy. Description of a practicable method].

Various techniques producing similar information can be compared by the use of ROC analysis. A practical and quick method of ROC analysis, which is otherwise very time-consuming, has been described for comparing various types of skeletal scintigraphy. Data is obtained by means of a phantom and evaluated with the help of a scheme which requires only moderate computational facilities.

[Exposure technics for computed scintigrams].

The technique of making copies on radiographic films or on multiformat cameras from computer scintigrams, computer tomograms, digital radiographs or other similar digital images should be carefully studied in order to make the best use of the characteristics of the film. Contrast transfer was studied using a nuclear medicine camera computer system with registration on radiographic film. Possible difficulties in obtaining copies and a simple software arrangement are described, which would influence contrast transmission.

[Value of radiological diagnosis in the complex study of femur head necrosis in children. 1. Plain film and arthography in the framework of complex studies of femur head necrosis].

The results of complex investigations of case history, clinical methods, plain film radiology, laboratory findings, arthrography, histology, scintigraphy, and angiography give information of the picture of necrosis of the femoral head ossification center. Especially from the radiological diagnosis conclusions can be drawn for secondary prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy.

[Value of radiological diagnosis in the complex study of femur head necrosis in children. 2. Scintigraphic and arteriographic studies in the framework of the complex diagnosis of femur head necrosis].

101 scintigraphic investigations and 42 angiograms show that the vascular tamponade is the decisive factor for the beginning of necrosis of the femoral head ossification center. Plain films, scintigraphy and angiography give information of the duration of the disease. Extent and localisation of the circulatory disturbance are important for the prognosis of the disease. From stage classification and prognostic factors the conclusions for therapy can be drawn.

[Late arterial complications after radiotherapy].

Late effects of radiotherapy are observed more frequently due to the improved results of the treatment of cancer and the resulting longer survival times. The big arteries, however, are only seldom attacked by late complications. The authors present a single case and stress the importance corresponding therapeutic action.

[Diagnosis of thrombosis with indium-111 labeled thrombocytes].

The distribution pattern of 111In-labelled autologous platelets was investigated in 50 patients. Imaging was performed with a scintillation camera connected to a computer system. 20 patients suffering from obliterative arterial disease showed a normal platelet distribution. Endothelial lesions after arteriography were found in 6 out of 10 patients. 15 of 20 patients with suspected venous thrombosis showed local platelet deposition. 10 of these patients with local platelet depositions were investigated by phlebography. Positive findings (fresh thrombi) were found in 8 patients. Optimum results were obtained by injecting platelets distal to the venous thrombus. Signs of thrombosis are interruption of blood flow, collateral formation and platelet deposition. This new method offers possibilities of radioisotopic diagnosis of parietal thrombus and venous thrombosis despite anticoagulation or fibrinolysis.
