[The effect of geomagnetic disturbances on the functions of attention and memory].

The effect of geomagnetic disturbances on the basic types of voluntary attention and short-term memory was studied. The three-hour K-indices and diurnal AK-indices as parameters of geomagnetic disturbances and psychological tests of attention and memory were used for IBM PC/AT processing. As a result, the test subjects were distributed into two groups according as the attention and memory parameters exhibited a decline or a rise. Decrement of memory was more apparent than that of attention. The short-term memory displayed a decline more frequently than mechanical or image-bearing, whereas the intensity of attention increased more often than memory span or distribution. These data suggest a non-specific impact of geomagnetic disturbances on the processes of attention and memory in humans.

[Physico-chemical properties of circulating immune complexes in blood and tears of cataract patients in the pre- and post-operative period].

We have studied physical and chemical properties of the circulating immune complexes of cataract patients before and after surgery as well as the influence of the technique of cataract extraction on the human organism inflammatory reaction, particularly on the lowering of concentration and dimensions of immune complexes in blood serum and tears. There is a hypothesis advanced on the influence of the immune complexes on the development of postoperative uveitis.

1004 cases of traumatic cataract surgery with implantation of an intraocular lens.

Traumatic cataracts occurring after ocular trauma were removed by phacoemulsification, cryoextraction or extracapsular cataract extraction, depending on the degree of lens absorption. All eyes received sputnik-style iridocapsular lenses. Most cases were complicated by the presence of synechiae and/or the need for iridoplasty. The surgical technique varied with the specific nature of the ocular pathology. Eyes with penetrating injuries has a higher complication rate. Anterior chamber shallowing or collapse was the most frequent intraoperative complication, and was directly related to the incidence of postoperative complications. Most postoperative complications were typical of those associated with cataract surgery in complicated situations.
