[Thymus participation in realizing the immunomodulating action of hydrocortisone].

It has been shown in experiments on CBA mice that in certain conditions injection of hydrocortisone (10 mg/kg) results in suppression of the delayed type hypersensitivity reaction and prolongation of the skin allograft survival. Preliminary thymectomy abolishes the immunomodulating effect of the drug, being, in the authors' opinion, the evidence for thymus involvement in mediation of the immuno-suppressive effect of hydrocortisone.

[Refractoriness of mouse spleen rosette-forming cells to thymus hormones during the period of early postnatal ontogeny].

The content of thymic serum factor in mice during the early postnatal ontogenesis is at the level characteristic of immunologically mature animals. Their spleen rosette-forming cells are, however, much less sensitive to antilymphocytic serum than those of adult animals. The sensitivity to the latter did not increase after incubation of splenocytes with thymosin or upon its multiple introduction to the neonatal mice. The results obtained suggest the refractoriness of the spleen rosette-forming cells to the thymic hormones during early postnatal ontogenesis.

[Contact interaction of mast cells and lymphocytes during ontogenetic antigen-induced differentiation and malignant transformation of lymphoid cells].

Mastocytes of newborn rats as well as those of adult ones are capable of rosette-formation, whereas the ability of lymphocytes to from rosettes increases with age. The thymocytes of 3-month-old mice lose the ability to mastolymphocytic rosette-formation (MLR) after priming for one hour at 45 degrees C. The ability of thymocytes and splenocytes to MLR-formation is closely related to the time course of immunization of the animals and the method of immunization. The thymocytes and splenocytes of mice with leukemia show a decreased and increased ability to MLR-formation, respectively.

[Suppressive effect of autologous thymocytes abolished by prednisolone].

The authors studied the effect of autothymocytes on the hemolysin-producing cells formation in different lymphoid organs of young rabbits. Intravenous injection of thymocytes proved to suppress the formation of antibody-producing cells in the spleen of animals. Prednisolone treatment of thymocytes before their injection cancelled the suppressive effect of autologous thymocytes.

[Cytolytic activity of human tonsillar lymphocytes].

The radioisotopic method was applied to the study of cytolytic activity of human tonsil lymphocytes against chick erythrocytes, intact and loaded with streptococcus and staphylococcus antigens. Lymphocytes proved to be much more active in the lysis of target cells treated with microbial antigens than of the intact ones. The degree of erythrocytolysis dispension of the tonsillar cells and their treatment with antiglobulin serum.
