Stimulation of cell component of the immune response activates exploratory behavior in senescence accelerated OXYS rats.

Suppression of the cell component of the immune system and open-field behavior developing in OXYS rats by the age of 3 months are regarded as manifestations of accelerated aging. Stimulation of cell-mediated immune response with BCG vaccine caused a dose-dependent increase of orientation and exploratory activity of OXYS rats in the open field test to virtually the same level as in Wistar rats.

Immunomorphological characteristics of animals with different levels of orientation and exploratory behavior.

We revealed some relationships between the level of orientation and exploratory behavior, functional activity of the immune system, and structural and functional organization of the CNS in animals. Significant differences in brain morphology and expression of cytokine IL-1 beta, type I IL-1 receptor, and erythropoietin receptor genes in brain cells were detected in (CBA x C57Bl/6)F1 mice with different initial levels of orientation and exploratory behavior. Immunocompetent cells of mice with high and low levels of exploratory behavior differ by spontaneous and mitogen-induced proliferative activity. The formation of humoral and cellular immune response in these animals causes opposite changes in exploratory behavior and the type of these changes depends on the initial level of this behavioral reaction.

Activity of cell immune response and open field behavior in Wistar and OXYS rats.

The state of the thymus, activity of cell-mediated immunity, and open field behavior were compared in Wistar and OXYS rats (premature aging). Early involution of the thymus was revealed in OXYS rats, which by the type of morphological changes corresponded to accidental involution and was associated with low level of delayed hypersensitivity reaction and decreased motor and exploratory behavior.

Parameters of cell immune response in Wistar and OXYS rats and their behavior in the open field test.

Comparative analysis of the state of the thymus, activity of cell component of the immune system, and open field behavior of Wistar and OXYS rats showed early involution of the thymus in OXYS rats. By morphological picture this involution corresponded to accidental involution and was paralleled by low level of delayed hypersensitivity reaction and by inhibition of motor and exploratory behavior.

Cytokine gene expression in cerebral hemispheres and behavioral reactions of (CBAxC57Bl)F1 mice.

Interleukin-1beta mRNA, interleukin-1beta receptor mRNA, and erythropoietin receptor mRNA are expressed in the brain of (CBAxC57Bl)F1 mice. Immunization with sheep erythrocytes stimulated the expression of these cytokines in the cerebral hemispheres. Injection of recombinant erythropoietin reduced expression of interleukin-1beta, interleukin-1beta receptor, and erythropoietin receptor genes in the brain of experimental animals and considerably increased their motor activity in the open field test.

Modulation of orientation and exploratory behavior in mice during development of humoral immune response.

We demonstrated opposite changes in the orientation and exploratory behavior of (CBAxC57Bl/6)F(1) mice in the open field test during the formation of primary humoral immune response. These changes depended on initial behavioral activity: the exploratory behavior was suppressed in animals with initially high activity, stimulated in animals with medium reaction, and remained unchanged in mice with initially low activity. The detected changes in the exploratory behavior during the formation of immune response were leveled in the total population (not divided by initial behavioral status).

Modulation of exploratory behavior in mice during activation of cell immune response.

We revealed a modulating effect of cell immune response on exploratory activity of (CBA degrees C57Bl/6)F1 mice depending on their initial behavioral profile. The formation of BCG-induced delayed-type hypersensitivity was accompanied by stimulation of the exploratory behavior in animals with initially low or intermediate activity, but did not change this parameter in behaviorally active mice.

[Morphofunctional parameters of immunocompetent blood cells in people with varying constitutions].

The examination of young healthy men has allowed to establish peculiarities of metabolism and reactivity of immunocompetent cells in relation to their somatotype. In individuals with somatotypes processing high fatty component (abdominal and undetermined) total lipid content in lymphocytes is increased predominantly due to unsaturated fatty acids and cholesterol ethers; the activity of dehydrogenases (succinate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and glutathione reductase) is increased. Cell responsiveness to emotional stress is sharply reduced. Metabolism is the most balanced, and regulatory processes are most mobile in muscular somatotype.

[Diabetes mellitus: its prevalence, relationship to the risk factors for IHD and prognostic importance (an epidemiological study)].

Sample examination of the population aged 25-64 basing on the disease history, fasting blood glucose test, glucose tolerance test, WHO criteria, diabetes mellitus was found in 6% of males and 6.9% of females. Only 2.7% of males and 3.1% of females were aware of their disease. Glucose tolerance test discovered abnormal carbohydrate tolerance in 5.6% and 13.3% of male and female examinees, respectively. Thus, a total of 12.2% of males and 20.2% of females had various disorders of carbohydrate metabolism. Diabetes mellitus patients had often hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, obesity, hypertension, low 10-year survival.

[Preoperative evaluation of the local spread of rectal tumors using ultrasonography].

Ultrasonography with the use of the method of sectorial and complex manual scanning is a valuable additional method of examination of the rectum for diagnosing the local spread of the tumor. The diagnostic accuracy of the method of examination of the rectum through the anterior abdominal wall for the establishment of the depth of tumor infiltration of the intestinal wall and the surrounding fat is 82.7%.

[Initial experiences in the use of the ASKIS automated system for detecting patients with ischemic heart disease. Automated System for Population Health Tracking and Follow-up].

The paper is concerned with the first experience gained in the use of the automated system ASKIS in the work of a district polyclinic of Moscow. The results of the questionnaire of 569 persons are provided. Analysis of the ambulatory cards was made immediately after the questionnaire and additional examination. It has been discovered that the system proposed can be used in the work of a polyclinic, since at allows one to identify persons afflicted with cardiovascular diseases.

[Integral approach to the prevention of major chronic non-infectious diseases].

The essence and the necessity of an integral approach to prevention of major chronic noncommunicable diseases (CNCD) is described proceeding from the example of the integral CNCD prevention programme in one of Moscow districts. The aims and basic directions of preventive activities are demonstrated along with possible ways of integrating medical services with various district nonmedical institutions. The findings of the sample study of the adult population (25-64 years) of the district are provided. The study has been carried out prior to the preventive activities and touched upon information supply of the population in relation to healthy mode of life, prevalence of major risk factors (arterial hypertension, smoking, excessive body weight, hypercholesterolemia) and some CNCD (IHD, chronic bronchitis, diabetes mellitus).

[Morphogenesis of polyps in diffuse polyposis of the colon].

Sixty operative specimens of the colon or its fragments removed for diffuse juvenile polyposis (the diagnosis was clinical) were evaluated morphologically. A structural study of the polyps ranging in size from the smallest to large lobular formations elicited a significant role of inflammation in polyp morphogenesis. Large polyps often show fragments of typical adenomatous structure. These adenomatous sites mark a higher risk of malignant transformation which develops in polyps of mixed structure in diffuse juvenile colon polyposis. Structurally, there are more reasons for referring juvenile polyps to adenomas than to hamartomas.

[Cancer of the small intestine at the site of an ileostomy].

A rather rare case of tubular-villous adenoma located on the small intestine mucosa in the ileostomy area and its transformation into adenocarcinoma is described. The patient had undergone previously a two-stage colectomy for a giant creeping large intestinal tumor with malignancy in the left and right colic flexure and in the rectum 7 cm apart from the anal margin. Adenocarcinoma of the small intestine developed 5 years later in the ileostomy zone. Ileostomy was reconstructed with the excision of 15 cm of the small intestine. The tumor structure at the site of ileostomy was that of adenocarcinoma, and it infiltrated the muscular layer of the small intestinal wall.
