Pelvic abscesses may develop after retention of foreign bodies. A case is presented in which during drainage of a post cesarean section pelvic abscess a small piece of a latex glove was recovered. The formation of pelvic abscesses due to foreign bodies is discussed.
A review of single agents and combination chemotherapy, with or without progestins, in the treatment of recurrent or metastatic endometrial carcinoma is presented. Doxorubicin, hexamethylmelamine, and cis-diamminedichloroplatinum are considered to be the most active drugs for the treatment of this disease. To date, combination chemotherapy has not shown any advantage over single agent therapy. The role of progestins in the treatment depends upon the presence of progesterone receptor binding sites. Better designed, randomized multi-institutional trials, using these drug combinations or new agents, singly or in combination, are necessary to identify optimal chemotherapy for patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer.
A patient with mixed müllerian tumor of the fallopian tube was treated with cyclophosphamide and cisplatin. The regimen achieved a complete remission. No severe drug-related toxicity occurred.
Two patients with non-puerperal traumatic vulvar hematoma due to physical assault are presented. Based on a review of the literature and our experience, a protocol for treatment is described with individualization of therapy emphasized.
A one year prospective study was performed to evaluate the complications of performing cone biopsy of the cervix uteri on an outpatient basis. A modification of a prior technique is described.
