Ectopic pregnancy in Greenland. An epidemiological study.

A retrospective epidemiological investigation was carried out to study the rate and incidence of ectopic pregnancy (EP) in Greenland. Data from 7 of Greenland's 16 medical districts, representing 48% of the population, were available for analysis covering the years 1980-1984. A total of 4481 pregnancies were reported, including 105 cases of EP. A rate of EP 2.34 was calculated, one of the highest on record, and significantly higher than Scandinavian figures representing the same period. Estimated from our figures there would be 44 cases of EP annually in Greenland. Annual fluctuations, however, were seen, and a positive correlation was found to notified cases of Neisseria infections. Significance from the null hypothesis, however, was only found at the 10% level.

Reiter's syndrome in Greenland. A clinical and epidermiological study of two communities.

Patients with post-venereal Reiter's syndrome, living in the districts of Egedesminde and Jakobshavn in Greenland, were ascertained from medical records and patient examinations. Fifty-one patients were found to have definite Reiter's syndrome according to the ARA proposed criteria. The prevalence of the disease is 1.08% in Egedesminde and 0.34% in Jakobshavn. Annual incidences and prevalences show a marked increase between 1960 and 1983. Retrospective follow-up data on all patients show that the disease recurs in over 85% of cases for which the follow-up period is 10 years or longer.

A family with Möbius syndrome.

A classic Möbius syndrome, including bilateral abducens-facial paralysis, was found in a newborn boy. At least 15 maternal relatives showed partial features of the syndrome. As potential features of Möbius syndrome also were found in the father's side of the family, a recessive mode of inheritance is suggested.
