Epithelial mesenchymal interrelations at the skin level. A quantitative study.

Epithelial mesenchymal interrelations at the skin level were quantitatively studied by analysing the modifications of fibrocytes in the framework of total connective cells and capillaries of the dermic mesenchyme and of the number of mitoses in the epidermis. A normal group of guinea pigs was compared with a massaged one (II) and a massaged one using ointment (III). There were found significant differences between the elements of the first and those of the second and third groups, and no significant differences between the 2nd and the 3rd ones. There were established and compared the ratio of dermal fibrocytes to other connective cells, to dermal capillaries and to epidermal mitoses: the ratio remained similar in all groups. These results lead to the conclusion that dermis (expressed by its cells and capillaries) and epidermis (reflected in mitoses) have a correlated response to the mechanical action exerted in physiological limits, and that the epithelial mesenchymal dependence at the skin level is determined by the strong interrelations which are not easily modifiable.

Histochemical and enzymatic study of the thyroid nodule.

Twenty-four cases of uninodular and polynodular thyreopathy subjected to partial or total thyroidectomy in 1980--1981 were studied. At the same time with the general morphological study, the activity of the following cellular enzymes in the thyroidian tissue were assayed: lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), glutamic oxalacetate transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvate transaminase (CPT) and creatine phosphokinase (CPK). Correlations between the morphophysiopathology of the thyroid nodule and its enzymatic activity have been made.

Microscopic and ultrastructural aspects in retinoblastoma.

A number of 12 retinoblastoma cases were studied. We had in view a number of histopathological aspects (tumor type, neighbouring structures invasion) which are considered to be decisive in appreciating the vital prognosis. We mention that undifferential retinoblastoma of histopathological type was met in 8 cases and the neighbouring structures invasion was present in 7 of them. We also studied the ultrastructura of the tumor cells belonging to the malignant tumor.

Considerations on endometrial epithelial metaplasia.

Our study aimed to the various histopathological aspects of the endometrial epithelial metaplasia and the endometrial lesions which appear more frequently associated to these changes. Being considered as isolated, endometrial epithelial metaplasia has no prognostic relevance. It is important that the histopathologist recognize it, because its association to some benign lesions (especially to the endometrial glandular hyperplasia) may generate confusion with carcinoma.
