Lymphocyte subpopulations, both in peripheral blood and in liver specimens obtained with the Menghini needle, were evaluated by E and EA rosette technique in 30 patients with chronic active hepatitis (CAH), 8 patients with chronic persistent hepatitis (CPH), 11 patients with acute viral hepatitis (AVH) and 11 patients with normal histology or minimal non-specific changes. Circulating E-RCF concentration and percentage were significantly decreased in CAH and CPH patients. Only one patient with acute hepatitis had a decreased number of circulating E-RFC. The ratio of peripheral blood E-RFC to liver tissue E-RFC was decreased in the patient with chronic disease. In all the groups studied, the percentage of liver tissue and peripheral EA-RFC was similar to that found in the blood from controls. Significant differences were not found between patients with and without evidence for HB viral infection.

Various dialyzers and acid-base balance in haemodialysis: 12 patients aged 32 to 52 years in periodic haemodialysis (4hx3) with residue diuresis absent, were examined during four trimestrial cycles with four different dialyzers (Nephross 16 F I60, Gambro Lundia Optima I3,5 micron, RP 5I0, Vita 2). The acid-base balance was examined 30 days after starting of each cycle. The results are reported and discussed.

The prevalence of the anti-HBc antibodies was studied in 54 patients with chronic liver disease and in a group of controls pair-matches. The meaning of the anti-HBc antibodies titer in the patients HBsAg negative is discussed. From our data, obtained by Radioimmunoassay, anti-HBc titers I:I000 seem to indicate an ongoing or recent viral replication, being probative, even in the absence of the HBsAg marker, for the viral etiology.

The authors have studied the effects of an oral or intravenous glucose load, of insulinic hypoglycemia, of arginine and the effects of the 2-deoxi-glucose on the plasmatic concentration of HPL and GH on pregnant women at different times during their pregnancy. None of the used tests seemed able to modify in any way the plasmatic concentration of the placental lactogen hormone; the somatotropinic response to the different stimuli happens to be lower than that found in non pregnant women of the same age. We and by asserting that unlike what happens with the GH, there does not exist a direct "feedback" between the modifications of plasmatic concentration of the main underlayers and HPL.

A single dose of 30 mg of S-adenosylmethionine was administered to 15 fasting subjects, scrupolously typified, eight of which were affected with primary hypertriglyceridemia, either of type II B or IV according to Fredrickson's classification, and seven with secondary hypertriglyceridemia. Triglyceride and phosphatide concentrations determined 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours after SAMe administration have shown a decrease in blood triglycerides and an increase in phosphatide levels, with significant values for the subjects with the primary form.
