[Psychiatry of distress and misery].
The moral distress that often accompanies social exclusion raises the question of the role of psychiatric care. The complex relationships between social and psychic process require differentiating the psychic suffering from the mental disease and questioning the limitations of psychiatric intervention in situations of psychosocial distress. The final stage of exclusion, life in the street, when prolonged can lead to dramatic psychic destructuring. It is thus urgent to reconsider the attitude toward "street dwellers" and to work toward a psychosocial assistance which goes beyond the division between the social sector and the psychiatric sector and aims to take into account the individual factors in each situation.
