A new endodontic stabilizer implant device.

A new endodontic stabilizer implant device is presented that can be used immediately after enucleation of large periapical cysts. The force transmission characteristics of this implant were evaluated by means of photoelasticity. The implant served to distribute incisal forces within the supporting structure. Improved stress conditions resulted at the tooth apex and between the apex and the superior border of the implant when the tooth was subjected to apicoectomy.

[Frequency and causes of extraction of permanent teeth. 2. Ten-year (1978-1987) clinicostatistical investigation].

The purpose of this clinical investigation was to analyze the frequency and the causes of mortality (loss) of 59,253 permanent teeth, extracted, during a ten-year (1978-1987) period, in Clinic Exodontia of Dental School University of Athens, at 35,830 population of Greece (15,260 males and 20,570 females). The following conclusions were drawn from the statistical analysis and the interpretation of the results: The mean value of extracted teeth per person was 1.65 and was lower in females (1.56) from males (1.78). Independently of the sex and the jaws (maxillamandible) the greater percentage (60.45%) of extractions was to posterior teeth. The extracted teeth were more in maxilla (55.58%). The more per cent extracted teeth, independently of the sex, were the maxillary central incisors (9.32%) and lateral maxillary incisors (8.87%) and the lower, the mandibular canines (3.15%). Caries and periodontal diseases were responsible for 83.27% of extracted teeth, independently the sex and the age. Caries was the major cause of extraction until 40 years old (79.26%) and after this age the periodontal disease was the major cause of extraction (43.47%).

[Tooth extraction on diabetic patients].

Performing extractions on diabetic patients is a complicated problem, which is connected with the type of diabetes and the various complications related to this disease. The main concern is to avoid acute incidents hyper or sub-glycemic comas during the operation and to secure a smooth post- operational course, namely an undisturbed post- extracture healing. In this study, 80 diabetic patients who came for extractions to the escodental department were divided into two categories: patients suffering from diabetes type I and patients suffering from diabetes type II. On the arrival of all patients, the contents of glycose in blood and acetone in urine were measured, and depending on the respective results patients of the first category were classified into three groups and patients of the second category were classified into four groups. Along with the normal measures usually taken for diabetic patients, specific instructions were given for the groups of each category, in order to prevent hyper- or sub-glycaminate incidents, during the operation. Proper instructions were further given for those patients, who had history chronical complications from diabetes. Extractions based on th method of classifying the patients into the above mentioned categories and groups have presented no complications whatever in our study.

[Frequency and causes of extraction of permanent teeth. A ten-year (1968-1977) clinicostatistical investigation].

The purpose of this clinical investigation was to analyze the frequency and the causes of mortality (loss) of 50493 permanent teeth, extracted, during a ten-year (1968-1977) period, in Clinic Exodontia of Dental School University of Athens, at 27804 population of Greece (13140 males and 14664 females). The following conclusions were drawn from the statistical analysis and the interpretation of the results: The mean value of extracted teeth per person was 1.84 and was lower in females (1.70) from males (1.94). Independently of the sex and the jaws (maxillamandible) the greater percentage (60.69%) of extractions was to posterior teeth. The extracted teeth were more in maxilla (52.42%). The more per cent extracted teeth, independently of the sex, were the maxillary central incisors (9.51%) and lateral maxillary incisors (8.61%) and the lower, the mandibular canines (3.41%). Caries and periodontal diseases were responsible for 80.37% of extracted teeth, independently the sex and the age. Caries was the major cause of extraction until 40 years old (71.03%) and after this age the periodontal disease was the major cause of extraction (51.61%).

[Teeth extractions on diabetics patients].

In this paper the writer primarily mentions the temporary theories on the classification and pathogenic origin of diabetes. Furthermore, he describes the most important etiological factors of the appearance of the disease and its clinical picture. He specially extends to mentioning the probability of appearance of acute complications during dental help to a diabetic patient. He also underlines that the degree the reformatory functions of the organism are influenced by the interference of chronic complications which he describes. After maintaining the basic precautionary lines during the extraction of teeth in diabetic patients he describes the basic approach necessary in case of acute complications of diabetes. In the paper are also mentioned the latest methods of direct calculation of the level of glucose both to blood and the urine of the patient.
