"My back is killing me".
This is a case of a rare cause of back pain that presented to several clinicians before the diagnosis became obvious and the correct management was initiated. Lemierre's syndrome was confirmed at post mortem examination. We conclude that thoracic back pain should not be assumed to have a simple mechanical cause and that efforts should be made to discover the underlying aetiology.

Controls for remote-controlled zoom lenses.
Experiments were conducted to investigate the expectation of members of the public of the relationship between a pair of pushbuttons, a rocker switch and the direction-of-zoom of a remote-controlled zoom lens. In neither case was a population stereotype found. Relatively large numbers of subjects suggested Zoom In/Zoom Out or Close-up/ Distant as labels for the zoom control buttons. A significant stereotype was demonstrated in a second experiment with a novel concentric button arrangement designed to embody the concepts apparent in the suggested labels.
