Three cases of acute urinary retention due to sacral myeloradiculitis are described. The authors stress the importance of diagnosing this rare and benign condition, which, in the past, has too often been mislabelled as either psychogenic or the first manifestation of a demyelinating disease.

Fifty six women with urinary stress incontinence were treated with transurethral teflon injections. Forty eight (86 per cent) were completely cured, or showed considerable improvement. No abscesses or other complications were noted, and hospitalization was reduced to two or three days. The procedure is easy to perform and does not preclude subsequent surgery, if required. It is particularly suitable for obese or debilitated patients, or patients who have previously undergone surgery without success.

56 women with urinary stress incontinence were treated by transurethral Teflon injection. 48 of these patients (86%) were completely cured or greatly improved. No abscess or other complications were observed. Hospital stay is reduced to 2-3 days. The procedure is easy to perform and does not interfere with further surgery, should it be necessary. It is particularly useful after failure of previous surgery and in obese and debilitated patients.
An inquiry organized by the Belgian Society of Surgery brought data on the mortality and morbidity of surgery on patients of 80 years and older for benign prostatic hypertrophy in a total number of 1,140 operations. Consensus exist to see this surgery as planned surgery. The mortality was 73 (6.3%) without statistical difference between endoscopic and open surgery. The morbidity of 824 patients was 165. This last figure relates to the big series in the literature. The mortality is in direct relation to the age of the patients. Evaluation of cardio-pulmonary risk (70.8% of the mortality), operation on indication at earlier diagnosis and prospective studies on the risk of operation in this population group are indicated.
