[The transesophageal approach to the heart in electrotherapy of trachycardiac arrhythmias. I. Transesophageal electrostimulation procedure].

Transoesophageal electrostimulation techniques were used in 124 cases of different tachycardiac disturbances of rhythm. By means of highly frequent transoesophageal atrial stimulation we succeeded in transformating into sinus rhythm in 46% of the patients with atrial flutter, in 29% of the cases with atrial tachycardias and in 75% of the patients with av-junctional tachycardias. At least atrial fibrillation (with decrease of the ventricular frequency) could be induced in 48% in pre-existing auricular flutter, in 38% in auricular tachycardias and in 15% in av-junctional atrial (partial success of therapy). Sinus tachycardias, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardias could practically not be influenced by highly frequent transoesophageal atrial stimulation. Moreover, for the first time the techniques of the doubled or coupled atrial stimulation, in 2 cases also ventricular stimulations with higher frequency were tested on transoesophageal way and were introduced into the treatment of tachycardiac disturbances of rhythm. The therapeutic results of transoesophageal electrostimulation techniques seem to be comparable entirely with those of intracardiac stimulations, in which cases the non-invasive and uncomplicated techniques are accessible also to institutions without possibilities of heart catheterization.

[Infusion therapy and parenteral feeding in acute pancreatitis].

The acute pancreatitis can be a life-threatening disease and can demand the performance of intensive-therapeutic measures. The central position there in occupy the infusion therapy and the parenteral nutrition. On account of the increased catabolism already in the initial phase of the acute pancreatitis the supply of suitable carriers of calories in adequate quantity is necessary. The indication of glucose and the differential indication of fructose and Alvesin "Neu" are discussed. In the treatment of shock human albumin, plasma and plasma substitutes as well as blood take the precedence. Apart from the diagnostic and therapeutic value of the peritoneal lavage in the acute pancreatitis is possesses the additional effect of the dialysis in acute renal failure.

[Periodontal conditions in patients over 70 years old wearing removable partial dentures].

The periodontal state of 70-year-old patients was compared with that of patients 10 years younger. It was established that the, in part, significant differences in favor of the older patients were not attributable to the distribution of the remaining teeth, the type or support of the prosthetic device, oral hygeine, or general physical condition. On the basis of this study, it was concluded that only those patients in the group over 70 years of age were fitted with partial dentures whose teeth showed a lesser amount of previous periodontal damage and/or were periodontally more resistant. This contributed to a satisfactory prosthetic care.

[Individual differences in the marginal periodontium of crowned and non-crowned topographically identical teeth].

A comparison was made on 191 crowned teeth in 125 patients altogether with removable partial replacements after average wear of 4.8 years with the corresponding number of contralateral uncrowned teeth. It could be shown that there was no significant difference between crowned and uncrowned teeth in respect of periodontal changes (loosening and deepening of pockets of pockets, periodontal diagnosis). Findings in crowned teeth had a frequent tendency to worsen.
