The results of reconstructive surgery in congenital fusion of teats in five cows are reported. All cows could be hand-milked post-operatively, with the exception of one heifer showing basal obstruction; all four quarters of one heifer could be machine-milked, and the other four cows could be hand-milked in three quarters. It was concluded that post-operative productivity, as either four-quarter or three-quarter cows, was sufficient to justify surgery and retention of the cows in the herd.

The clinical examination, anaesthesia and surgery in a gelding with an incarcerated scrotal hernia are described. The results of examination of the blood at regular intervals are shown in a table. Surgery was performed without enterectomy. The postoperation course was uneventful. It is concluded that the possibility of scrotal hernia should be borne in mind, even in geldings with colic. The incarcerated portion of the small intestine is usually found to be the jejuno-ileal junction. The anaesthesiological and surgical features of equine scrotal hernia are discussed.
The radiological and clinical interpretation of alterations of the navicular bone, the interaction of radiological and clinical symptoms in relation to the age of the animal, the influence of work-load on this interaction and the possibility of predicting navicular disease at an early stage are discussed. The discussion is based on experience in a study of 130 horses.
Dopamine (DA) was injected in the third brain ventricle of goats and the thermoregulatory effects were studied under different ambient conditions. The effects depended on dose, ambient conditions and cannula used. In the cold, there was a drop in body temperature, sometimes accompanied by suppression of shivering and by vasodilatation. Both temperature decrease and suppression of shivering were dose-dependent but there was no relation between magnitude of temperature drop and occurrence of shivering suppression. In a thermoneutral environment, there was either a slight vasoconstriction or hypothermia, occasionally accompanied by induction of panting. In the heat, either hypothermia or hyperthermia was observed. Hypothermia was accompanied by an increase in panting. Hyperthermia only occurred when the animals became excited as a result of the injection of DA. It is concluded that DA acts by stimulating the thermoregulatory pathway from heat sensors to heat loss effectors at a locus similar to that for 5-hydroxytryptamine in the thermoregulation model of Bligh et al. (1971).
The case of a primary ovarian actinomycosis developed during the use of a Szontágh--Szereday type plastic IUD is presented. After a radical operation the patient was discharged in a good condition but 40 days later had to be readmitted because of a pelvic and abdominal wall abscess. After local surgery and massive penicillin treatment she is free of complaints. It is assumed that the IUD had a pathomechanical role.

Biopsies of the skin of the umbilical area were taken from ninety-nine horses and one donkey, all reared in the Netherlands. The biopsy specimens were examined for the presence of microfilariae by a recovery procedure. Microfilariae were identified in eight horses. These were microfilariae of the species Onchocerca cervicalis in each case.
