[Use of types W 401 external tocometer and BMT 504 foetal monitor for external tocography and recording of foetal movements (author's transl)].

Described in this paper is an external tocometer, Type W 401, for complementary use to Type BMT 504 foetal monitor (VEB Messgerätewerk Zwönitz, GDR). Its applications can be expanded by combination with additional measuring and recording instruments of the BMT series. This will widen possibilities for differentiated external tocography and systematic monitoring of foetal movements. Recording examples are given.

Female

[A method for automatically analysis of antenatal cardio-tocograms (author's transl)].

An off-line computer analysis of antenatal cardiotocograms has been developed. The fetal heart period (interbeat interval), the signals from uterine contractions and fetal movements, the maternal heart period and the continuous time are recorded on magnetic tape. A marking of single steps and of special events during this investigation is possible. For data processing the sequence of measuring values must be divided in shorter intervals (as a rule with a length of 30 seconds).--After this the mean value of FHR and of MHR is calculated for each interval. By computation of the standard deviation (S), the index of instantaneous arrhythmia (IAI), and the number of macrofluctuations of these intervals a quantification of the heart rate short-time-variability and long-time-variability can be performed.

Diagnosis, Computer-Assisted

[Dynamics of the dilatation of as uteri during birth].

219 partogramms of primipares and 219 partogramms of multipares were analysed retrospectively. Only normal deliveries after normal pregnancies were taken into consideration. Graphs were plotted of time intervalls against the width of the cervix. The mean duration of dilation were 6 hours for multipares and 9 hours for primipares. All phases of first stage of labour were reduced in multipares. The results were compared with observations of other authors.

Cervix Uteri

[Heart rate during perinatal period].

Observations on heart frequency during the perinatal period. Registrations of the fetal heart rate were carried out on 133 children before and after delivery. 3 different types of heart rate patterns were found, each of them could be subdivided in 2 groups. The several groups are different in the shape and the steepness of fetal heart rate ascent after delivery. Supplementary other fetal parameters were examined (Apgar-score, time of the first breath, moment of first newborn cry, onset of regular respiration). These parameters showed significant associations with the above-mentioned types of the fetal heart rate patterns. For the blood gas parameters however such relations to the heart rate patterns were not found.

Apgar Score

[Intravenous induction of labor with prostaglandins F2alpha].

Report on 60 patients with induction of labour by intravenous infusion of prostaglandin F2alpha. The high rate of success (95%) was attributed to some favourable factors. Side effects were minimal. Moreover no effects on the metabolism were observed. During labour a electronical and biochemical supervision is neccessary.

Blood Glucose

[Clinical problems in extreme fetal retardation].

Three cases of extreme fetal somatic retardation are reported. Fetal retardation is the consequence of chronic placental insufficiency and is affected with a high lethality. It is necessary to recognize suspicious cases by anamnesis and clinical findings; a method of differential diagnostic procedure is described. After demonstrating the placental insufficiency and sufficient fetal maturity the indication for finishing pregnancy is given even though the fetus is extremely small.

Adult

[Electronic urethro-cystometry before and after reconstructive surgery using the Zoedler method].

Electronical measurement of pressure in the bladder and urethra of 9 incontinent women treated by the Zoedler-plastic. A comparison of pre- and postoperative levels yielded the following results: 1. The functional length and the closing-pressure of the urethra show uncharacteristic changes of the levels only. The expected postoperative rise of the levels have not come true. 2. The vesico-urethral quotient at strain (pV max/pU max) is (with the exception of one case) corresponding to the result of the operation. 3. The clinical recovery from incontinence after the Zoedler-plastic is combined with small changes in the pressure-graphs only.

Adult

[Urometry using a biomonitor combination].

Description of an apparatus for electronical measurement of pressure at the efferent urinary passages of the woman is given. The combination may be fitted in a variable way from elements of the biomonitor series of the VEB Kombinat Messgerätewerk Zwönitz. Pressure values can be recorded simultaneously by means of three separate measuring canals. The apparatus is suitable for clinical and scientific examinations such as cystometry, simultaneous cystourethrometry and uretermanometry. Additionally typical pressure graphs are demonstrated.

Female

[Functional studies on the implanted ureter].

Electronical measurements of pressure in 8 successfully implanted ureters (6 Boari-Plastics, 2 direct implantations) yielded the following results. 1. Frequency, amplitude, duration and rate of spreading of the contractions show no differences compared to the normal ureter. 2. In the Boari-plastic the peristaltic activity is transferred also to the area of the anastomosis between bladder-flap and ureter. 3. Increasing pressure of bladder by retrograde filling produced temporary impairments of peristaltic of the implanted ureter in one case only.
