Fabricating moisture chamber spectacles with a sectional facial moulage.

A technique for the construction of acrylic resin moisture chambers has been presented. The utilization of a sectional facial moulage allows for the construction of the chambers to be carried out in the laboratory saving valuable patient contact time. The necessary materials are readily available, and the techniques are common to dental practice.

Use of silicone in treatment phase of radiotherapy.

The usefulness of silicone has been demonstrated. No special materials are necessary, as those which are already present in the dental office are adequate. The silicone will not distort over the treatment period and can be repositioned accurately to ensure uniformity of the dose. It is also easily cleaned and stored for daily use. It can be used to improve the plane of the surface tissue and provide "buildup" to fill "dead space," which helps assure accurate assessment of the magnitude and distribution of the desired radiation dose.

Denture esthetics is more than tooth selection.

The selection of the proper mold and shade of denture teeth is but one part of denture esthetics. Compensating for lost alveolar bone, correctly positioning anterior teeth for lip support, and reestablishing the correct vertical dimension of occlusion, in combination with proper tooth selection, creates good denture esthetics. Proper contour and normal physiologic movement of the muscles enhances an esthetic denture, whereas improper support can severely detract from it. Even though denture construction requires a step-by-step progression, these steps cannot be isolated but rather must be integrated to produce an optimal result.

Should dentures be worn continuously?

Material has been presented to show the potential problem in continuous denture wearing. Commercial booklets for patient education have been reviewed and found to be in need of revision. Dental schools are not in agreement in the subject of continuous denture wear. The need for unanimity is evident, and if this is to be achieved, patient education publications must be revised. A maximum effort is needed to educate edentulous patients about oral tissue health, and especially the length of time that dentures should be worn.
