[Tracheostomy--late complications and their treatment (author's transl)].

The number of late complications after tracheostomy has increased due to new indications especially reanimation. Tracheal stenosis is the most severe complication. Its treatment by resection and end to end anastomosis, tracheopexy, plastic reconstruction or by endotheses is discussed. The operative technique of these procedures is difficult, the result not always satisfying.

[What does conservative therapy of "idiopathic" facial paresis accomplish?].

The results of conservative therapy in 160 patients with so-called idiopathic facial paralysis are reported. In 94.2% of the patients a complete or far extending normalisation took place. In incomplete paralysis the number of patients restored to health was about 96.1%, and 93.3% incomplete paralysis. We treated with salicyl-pyrazon-dervatives or combined with corticosteroids and with antibiotics resp. sulfonamids combined with corticosteroids. Physical therapy was applicated additionally in every case. Recovery did not depend from the sort of medicaments which were chosen.

[Endoscopy of the cerebellopontile angle using the retrosinusal-suboccipital route].

In spite of the introduction of new examination methods (positive contrast demonstration, tomography, CAT) difficulties may be encountered in the instrumental diagnosis of smaller neurinomas of the auditory nerve. That is why one has already for some time tried to reach the pontine-angle with the endoscope. Until now, this has been done by the transpyramidal-retrolabyrinthal route. Since this access is too complicated for diagnostic purposes, the authors have chosen the retrosinal-suboccipital route and proved its suitability by examinations in corpses. This is the same route of access which is used by most neurosurgeons for carrying out operations to the pontine-angle tumour.
