We review to date 20 pelviscopic extirpations of the uterus. This new method of hysterectomy shows some advantages over the common vaginal hysterectomy. Anatomy of the supporting ligaments of the uterus remains the same, recovery from the operation goes quicker. Morbidity rate seems to be less than in the case of vaginal hysterectomy.
EDP-supported documentation of patients has become increasingly important over the last several years. Seven autonomous wards of the gynecological department of the Hospital Rudolfstiftung were equipped with a clinical documentation system. The integration of this new system into the infrastructure of the KIS (Krankenhausinformationssystem) was accomplished with the help of the MD-ADV. We also implemented one of the best-known statistical analyzing systems, SAS, so that we have simple possibilities for statistical calculation and graphical plots.

Up to now the daily routine work and statistics have been facilitated by using some self-developed microcomputer based data collection systems. No network has been established. Currently we implemented in out hospital "Krankenanstalt Rudolfstitung" a country-wide patient oriented data collection net system. In future it will be possible to compare all patients datas, methods and success of treatment of all Viennese hospitals.
Striae distensae are an appreciable cosmetic problem for many pregnant women. Preventive application of a water/oil massage cream was tested in a group of 24 gravidae (control group: 26 patients). In the untreated control group striae distensae were observed in two-thirds of the patients, whereas the prophylactically-treated gravidae showed development of striae in only one third of the group given the test preparation. Better results were obtained in women with a favourable constitutional predisposition than in patients with a tendency to overweight. The massage cream was well tolerated by all gravidae.
A data collection system on microcomputer was developed for patients with malignant diseases in ambulant aftercare. At the same time when patient data are collected to be sent to a central medicostatistical plotting station, as it is usual in Austrian hospitals, a file for further aftercare is opened. By data transfer to other software products, statistical data evaluation is possible. Patients can also be called to hospital for different reasons.

Endometrial curettage at the time of conisation is often performed as a routine procedure, even when indication for this treatment is rather unclear. 593 conisations including curettages were performed at the I. Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, of the University of Vienna and were evaluated retrospectively. Only 3 patients with a mild endometrial hyperplasia were found. Therefore, in our opinion, there is no indication for a curettage at the time of conisation, if a woman is under the age of 35 years and if there is no other specific indication for sampling the endometrium, based on high risk factors, physical examination, history or abnormal glandular cells found on cervical cytology. Such management would result in reducing the costs and the risk of infection in intrauterine operations.
A data collection system on microcomputer connected with an automatic medical report system for operations, was developed to facilitate both medical report as well as documentation. Linking different commercial software products by use of a Pascal programme, we were able to speed up daily routine work as well as establish efficient graphical statistics of patient data.
