[Survey of the cycle of reproduction of red algae Gelidium sesquipedale (Turner) Thuret (case of the maritime zone of El Jadida-Jarf lasfer of Morocco)].

The industrial exploitation of the agarophyte, Gelidium sesquipedale, is an important part of the economy of Morocco, however the species is in danger of being overexploited. The development of research on the biological cycle of the species enbles a better understanding of environmental influencies on its reproduction periods and of the effect of pulling up on the growth of the thalli. This should assist in helping to avoid excessive collection of the species and to reinforce a period of rest where no collection takes place. The major are of collection supplying industries is the maritime sector of El Jadida - Jarf Lasfar. In order to study the methods of reproduction of G sesquipedale, a first series of experimentation was carried out by the INRH. Studies relating to biology and the effect of pulling up on the biometrics of the thalli of this species were carried out at two stations of the maritime zone El Jadida - Jarf lasfar: Moulay Abdellah and Sidi Bouzid during the period 2000-2002. The results obtained show that the fertile thalli are present all the year with a maximum reproductive activity in winter. The recruitment of the young slings takes place before the winter and occurs more in Sidi Bouzid. The regeneration and the growth of the thalli are carried out in spring and summer. To preserve this resource, it is necessary to put in place a system whereby one zone or area is allowed to rest whilst another area is cultivated for a year; whilst in the following year the rercise occurs.

[Thoracic gossypibomas].

OBJECTIVES: Intrathoracic gossypiboma are exceptional, but diagnosis and treatment are difficult. The purpose of this study was to recall the clinical and radiological aspects of intrathoracic gosssyibomas and discuss the medicolegal consequences. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From January 1990 to June 2003, eight cases of gossypiboma were treated in our unit. The patients were aged 31 to 60 years (mean 40.5). Six had a history of thoracic surgery and two a history of biliary surgery. Clinically, the main symptom was hemoptysia (7 patients, 87.5%). Four patients (50%) presented thoracic pain and one a pleurocutaneous fistula. The chest x-ray revealed a poorly delimited opacity in six patients, a liquid effusion in one and a raised left diaphragm in one. The thoracic scan performed in two patients demonstrated an air image in one and a liquid image in the other. RESULTS: Surgical removal was difficult in all eight patients. Pulmonary parenchyma had to be sacrificed in certain patients. Two patients developed postoperative complications (one pneumothora and one thoracic wall infection). CONCLUSION: The diagnosis of intrathoracic gossypiboma should be suggested in all patients with a pulmonary mass and a history of thoracic surgery, more rarely laparotomy. Prevention remains the best treatment.

[Conceptuel model of transport of trace metals (chromium and nickel) in the Sebou River--Morocco].

This paper examines trace metals' behavior, mainly chromium and nickel, in Sebou River in the level located between Sidi Harazem upstream and Azib Soltane downstream. The studied level is the most exposed to pollution with heavy metals rejected by Fès stream. This often condemns tens of kilometers of Sebou and leads to a threat and an important handicap for some catches of water located downstream of the town of Fès. The purpose is then to develop a physicochemical model simulating trace metals' behavior (Cr and Ni) in Sebou River. This model combines transport phenomena (advection and dispersion) with physical and chemical processes studied in the two compartments of the river: water column and sediment as sorption, diffusion, deposition, resuspension and burial. These processes are grouped under a conceptual model diagram and converted into an equations system solved by numeric methods. The model calibration uses a data of suspended matter, nickel and chromium concentrations measured in water column and sediment. Results shown in this paper are related to model development and calibration. They are consistent with the possibility of simulating the evolution for nickel, chromium and the suspended matter concentrations along the Sebou River.

[Aquatic ecosystem modelling approach: temperature and water quality models applied to Oualidia and Nador lagoons].

The objective of this work is to develop an aquatic ecosystem and apply it on Moroccan lagoon systems. This model will keep us abreast of the yearly development of the main parameters that characterize these ecosystems while integrating all the data that have so far been acquired. Within this framework, a simulation model of the thermal system and a model of the water quality have been elaborated. These models, which have been simulated on the lagoon of Oualidia (North of Morocco) and validated on the lagoon of Nador (North West Mediterranean), permit to foresee the cycles of temperature of the surface and the parameters of the water quality (dissolved oxygen and biomass phytoplankton) by using meteorological information, specific features and in situ measurements in the studied sites. The elaborated model, called Zero-Dimensional, simulates the average conduct of the site during the time of variable states that are representatives of the studied ecosystem. This model will provide answers for the studied phenomena and is a work tool adequate for numerical simplicity.
