[Change of farmyard manure application in Shaanxi Province].

The change of farmyard manure (FYM) application in Shaanxi Province since 1986 was analyzed. The proportion of farmyard manure application to total nutrient decreased gradually with years, and was only 46.9% in 2000, which was reduced by 23% compared to the figure in 1986. Soil fertility was gradually reduced, and potassium shortage appeared in farmlands of some regions. The farmyard manure were consumed mainly on grain crops in terms of overall amount of manure inputs, bu application rates of manure to fruit trees and vegetables were higher than that of grain crops in terms of per unit area. Consumption of manure obviously increased in apple since middle of 1990's. The reason of the FYM consumption decrease was also analyzed, and some suggestions were made.

[Soil nitrogen mineralization and its prediction in winter wheat-summer maize rotation system].

The mineralization of soil nitrogen in winter wheat-summer maize growth season was studied with field experiment, and its prediction was made by interval leached aerial incubation combined with first-order dynamic model. The results showed that the amount of soil mineralized nitrogen had a large variation among years and crops. The soil nitrogen mineralization was lower in winter wheat growth season than in summer maize growth season, resulted in the yield increment of summer maize being not significant with increasing nitrogen fertilization rate. The amount of soil mineralized nitrogen occupied 31%-60% of the total nitrogen uptake by winter wheat and 62%-108% by summer maize. It was understandable why crop yield (especially summer maize) was not significantly response to applied nitrogen fertilizer. The amount of soil mineralized nitrogen decreased with increasing soil nitrogen supply. The mineralization was positive in normal nitrogen supply range(0-300 kg N.hm-2). The first order dynamic model could only predict the whole trend of mineralization in growth season, but could not reflect its variation in some growth stages. The role of the model was still important in view of the prediction of nitrogen mineralization before sowing.

[Morphology of wheat roots under low-phosphorus stress].

The morphology of root systems of different wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes under low-phosphorus stress were studied to determine the effects of external factors on components of root system and the early morphological indicators related to phosphorus efficiency. The number of root axes and the length of lateral root of P-deficient plant were significantly lower than those of P-sufficient plant. The length of root axis and root system, and the number of lateral roots were sharply increased under low-P stress. The number and length of root axis were significantly different under different levels of phosphorus supply and among different wheat genotypes under same phosphorus supply. This implied that the two traits (number and length of root axis) were controlled by genotype and external factors. The difference in the characteristics of lateral root of the given wheat genotypes was significant only between different levels of P supply. It showed that the traits of lateral root mainly depended on external factors. The length and number of root axis, root length, and root angle were significantly different among 6 wheat genotypes. There exited significant linear relationships between relative grain yield and the interaction of the morphological traits, and it implied that the traits could be used as early indicators of selecting high P-efficiency wheat varieties.

[Effect of phosphorus deficiency on activity of acid phosphatase exuded by wheat roots].

The activity of acid phosphatase exuded by roots, the tissue location of the enzyme, and the relationship between the enzyme activity and phosphorus efficiency of wheat were studied. The results showed that the activity of acid phosphatase exuded by wheat 81(85)5-3-3-3 and NC37 under P-sufficiency treat were lower than those under P-deficiency, and the enzyme activity of the former variety was significantly higher than that of the latter. There was a significant difference in the enzyme activity among 12 wheat genotypes grown under P-deficiency treat. Acid phosphatase was exuded by epidermis cell of root, especially by epidermal cell of root apex. Thus, there was a linear relationship between the enzyme activity and the surface area of root or the number of root apexes. It implied that the enzyme activity was markedly related to the size of root system. The linear relationship between relative grain yield and acid phosphatase activity was significant. It indicates that the enzyme activity could be used as an early indicator to select P-efficient wheat genotypes.

[Comparison of morphology, physiology and mineral element contents among genotypes of sesame with different tolerance to waterlogging under anaerobic condition].

The morphological and physiological indexes and the mineral element contents in different organs of 4 genotypes of sesame were examined under controlled oxygen supply. The number of adventitious roots of flooding tolerant varieties, Wild No. 7 and Yuzhi No. 1, increased 4-5 fold, the activity of ADH enhanced about twice, but the net photosynthetic rate (Pn) decreased slightly. There were significant increase in Ca and P and little decrease in K in roots, and decrease in other elements in roots and 8 elements in stems and leaves. As for less flooding-tolerant genotypes, Danbackaggce and Suiping Xiaozhihuang, however, the number of adventitious roots increased little, the activity of ADH enhanced 5-9 folds, and Pn decreased by 50-60%. An increase in Ca and P, and a significant reduction in K was found in roots. It was concluded that the waterlogging tolerance of sesame depended firstly on the structural adaptation, then on the anoxia metabolism, and that Ca and P may play an important role in the metabolic adaptation to the anaerobic environment for plant survival.

[Effects of decapitation on growth, uptake and distribution of potassium in tobacco].

Compared with intact plants, decapitation did not cause increase in dry weight of tobacco plant and in potassium accumulation 8 weeks after the treatment. In intact plants, about 1/3 of assimilation and potassium were transported into the top, and only about 1/3 of those deposited in the leaves. Decapitation resulted in about 1/2 of assimilation and potassium distributing in the leaves, so it was more effective. Application of NAA on the stump of the stem did not influence leaves yields, but accumulation of potassium in the upper and middle leaves was enhanced.
