[The diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders in heat shock].

The article examines actual aspects of serious heat injuries in some kinds of military activities, and shows clinical manifestations of nervous system affection in thermal shock. The authors stress the importance of opportune diagnosis for these types of heat injuries, and describe the measures oriented to the correction of neurologic disorders in thermal shocks, as well as its role in complex treatment of this pathology.

Combined Modality Therapy

[Transcranial electric stimulation therapy in the treatment of neurocirculatory asthenia].

Transcranial electric stimulation (TES), a combination of direct and pulse current totally up to 5 mA, rectangular impulses lasting 3-4 ms at a frequency of 75-80 Mz, via frontal and retromastoid electrodes was carried out for 30 minutes every other day. The treatment consisted of 7 to 10 sessions. Overall 189 patients suffering from vegetovascular dystonia were examined. Of these, 114 persons (group I) received pharmacotherapy and TES, 61 TES (group II), and 14 were on placebo. 83% of the group I patients and 80.3% of the group II patients manifested an appreciable improvement of the well-being which was supported by the data of its general estimation. 22 patients were examined for blood beta-endorphin. It has been shown that its concentration increased and returned to normal during TES.

Brain Injuries

[The clinical and instrumental characteristics of the sequelae of closed brain trauma].

The complex analysis of clinico-instrumental data obtained during the examination of 220 patients with nonpenetrating cerebral trauma made it possible to determine the main neurologic syndromes and variants of clinical course of trauma consequences. The article shows the role of additional methods for objective studying of neurologic disorders, and for closer definition of cerebral pathology and pathogenetic mechanisms of some neurologic syndromes. The authors give a comparative characteristic of clinical, instrumental and psychological methods of study. The research has shown that there were no straight dependency between the gravity of trauma in the acute period and its possible consequences.

Brain Damage, Chronic

[Homeostatic effect of thymalin in multiple sclerosis].

The paper is concerned with interaction of the immune, endocrine and nervous systems in patients with multiple sclerosis. Dexamethasone and vasopressine tests were made. Lymphocyte sensitivity to hydrocortisone and thymalin, the main protein of myelin, was detected. It is advisable that arginine-vasopressine combined with thymalin be used for correction of homeostatic abnormalities and secondary disease prophylaxis.

Adrenal Cortex Function Tests

[Relation between biochemical indicators of the cerebrospinal fluid and the extent of cerebral infarction].

The authors assessed liquor biochemical indices, mainly enzymes, on day 1-3 of hemispheric ischemic stroke in correlation with brain infarction size in 90 relevant male patients (mean age 70 +/- 6 years). The brain damage was verified by computed tomography with measuring the infarction lesion. The latter in view, the patients were assigned in three groups: with ischemic lesion less than 5.0 cm3, less than 30 cm3 and greater than 30.0 cm3 or/and multiple lesions. The results were compared with those in patients who had suffered hemispheric ischemic stroke followed by discirculatory encephalopathy.

Aged

[Diagnosis and the main trends in the treatment of spondylogenic lumbosacral radiculitis].

Clinical, immunological, liquorological, roentgenological, rheovasographic, myelographic methods and computerized tomography (CT) were used to investigate 153 patients with spondylogenic lumbosacral radiculitts. The data expanded our knowledge of pathogenesis of neurological signs of lumbar osteochondrosis. Diagnostic capacities of CT in this ailment were for the first time assessed in comparison with other investigation techniques. Clinical CT syndromes of median, paramedian and posterolateral intervertebral disc hernia were depicted. Pathogenic grounds were offered to differential use of electroneurostimulation, reflex, manual, tractional therapies in the combined treatment of the disease depending on its actual stage. CT is recommended to evaluate the treatment efficiency.

Adult

[Clinico-morphological characteristics of complex types of stroke].

Mixed and associated forms of stroke are referred to as combined. These have their features of clinical course and pathomorphology. Selected issues of pathogenesis and therapy of these disorders are discussed. Combined strokes and their sub-items, mixed and associated, are worth including into existing "Classification of cerebral vascular diseases".
