The authors were studying syntopy of the abdominal organs in children with ventral hernias appearing after healing a great hernia of the umbilical cord in the neonatal period. Certain regular disturbances of the anatomical and functional state of the abdominal organs were detected. These data gave grounds for a new correcting operation allowing normal syntopy of the organs to be restored and their function to be improved. The operation was introduced into practice of the Surgical Clinic of the Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute in 1975.
The clinico-roentgenological picture of retroperitoneal neuroblastomas was studied in 124 children. According to the clinical course of the disease the patients were divided into 3 main groups: a group with asymptomatic course (18 patients), children with local symptoms (63 patients). The roentgenological examination is believed by the authors to be a leading factor in the diagnosis of retroperitoneal neuroblastomas.

9 children aged from 40 hours to 7 years were operated upon. The peculiarity of the surgical intervention in a newborn consists in the difficult arising at the correction of the position of the heart. Both newborns died to the heart defects incompatible with life. The operations carried out upon elder children (7) were successful, the difficulty derived from the necessity to form a thoracic frame over the transposed heart. The late results are good.

By now the world literature counts 955 observations on congenital cystic enlargement of the common bile duct. The authors add 14 own observations of this rather rare pathology. Preoperative diagnosis is still difficult. The intravenous cholegraphy remains the best diagnostic procedure. The choledochocystoduodenostomy is justified by its usefulness and is the most frequently used. The late results of the treatment are good. An unfavourable prognosis is present only in cases with preoperative chronic hepatitis, cholangitis or pancreatitis, as these diseases are likely to aggravate later on.
The authors described 49 neonates and infants with perforation of the intestine. The clinical picture of perforation, peculiarities of its diagnosis and the treatment are presented. A special emphasis is laid upon contrastless radiography providing quite a valuable information for the diagnosis.

During the period of 1961-1975 in the Child Surgery Clinic of Leningrad Medical Institute of Pediatrics reparative-plastic operations for the urinary bladder extrophy were performed in 39 patients. Most of children were operated upon at the age under 1 year. In 36 patients plastic reconstruction of the urinary bladder, sphincter and urethra was performed with local tissues after the Young technic in the G. A. Bairov modification. Late results of surgical treatment were studied in 26 patients within the terms from 1 to 14 years. Good results were gained in 10 patients, satisfactory--in 9, poor--in 7, one of them died.

In the paper, a clinical experience with treatment of intestinal paresis in 545 children, aged from 1 day to 13 years, including 225 children operated upon for peritonitis is summarized. The authors differentiate 3 stages in the development of intestinal paresis depending on the degree of intensity of systemic and local disturbances. The employed methods of treatment in intestinal paresis were classified by the principle of their effect as 3 groups. Application of some or other method of the paresis therapy is determined by the stage of its development. In treatment of postoperative intestinal paresis a continuous peridural blockade is considered to be the method of choice. Utilization of the latter enabled the authors to reveal a number of postoperative complications: mechanic intestinal obstruction, incompetent anastomosis, etc.
