[Effect of chemical modification on proteinase interaction with inhibitors, on their coagulability and acute toxicity].

A comparative study of terrylytin, trypsin and products of their covalent binding to human serum albumin was carried out. Modification caused a decrease of the affinity of both enzymes for proteinase inhibitors from the blood. The inhibition constant for terrylytin was increased 3-4-fold, that for trypsin - by 2 or 3 orders. The recalcification time of human blood plasma in the presence of terrylytin remained practically unchanged after enzyme chemical modification. Trypsin binding to albumin decreased its coagulability. Preparations of modified enzymes were characterized by a decreased acute toxicity, this effect being especially well-pronounced in the case of trypsin. The decrease of terrylytin toxicity due to modification can be accounted for by a decrease in its affinity for alpha2-macroglobulin. The decrease of trypsin toxicity is apparently due to a decrease of its coagulability due to binding to albumin.

[Doses levorin display an antiandrogenic action?].

The antiandrogenic effect of levorin on immature castrated rats treated with exogenic testosterone was studied. In a dose of 200 mg/kg levorin lowered the cholesterin blood levels in the rats, inhibited the testosterone-induced increase in RNA concentration in the ventral and dorsal prostate and the seminal vesicles and to a less extent suppressed the growth of the accessory sexual glands. However, the antiandrogenic effect was observed with the use of levorin in the dose producing a pronounced toxic action evident from death of a part of the animals and a marked decrease in the animal body weight. This fact casts doubt on specificity of the levorin effect. Apparently, in high doses levorin impairs metabolism as a whole which cannot but affect the response of the sexual glands to administration of testosterone.

[Study of the effect of nystatin and mycoheptin on the intrauterine development of the rat fetus].

The effect of nystatin and mycoheptyne on pregnancy and fetus of rats of Wister line was studied after single and multiple oral administrations of the drugs. Nystatin was used in single doses of 3000, 500 and 100 mg/kg. In chronic experiments the dose was 500 mg/kg. It was found that nystatin had a slight abortive effect when used during the whole period of pregnancy. Mycoheptyne was used in single doses of 1000, 100 and 20 mg/kg. In chronic experiments the dose was 100 mg/kg. It was noted that mycoheptyne had a higher toxic effect on the pregnant rats than nystatin. The animal death and abortus were observed more often. The level of the changes depended on the dose, time and period of the antibiotic use. No defects in the rat fetus were found.

[Toxic action of morphocycline on pregnant rats].

Morphocycline was administered intravenously to rats of Wistar line in doses of 100, 50 and 20 mg/kg at various periods of pregnancy. It was found that a single administration of morphocycline in the above doses to the rats on the 9th day of their pregnancy resulted in abortus in some female rats. Death and resorption of the fetus were more frequent after the antibiotic use in doses of 20 and 50 mg/kg. Repeated administrations of morphocycline in doses of 20 mg/kg resulted in abortus and postimplantation death of the fetus most pronounced in the animal groups treated with the antibiotic during the periods of the 7th to the 10th and from the 11th to the 14th days of pregnancy. The teratogenic activity of morphocycline was slightly pronounced. It was observed in some fetus after both single and repeated administrations of the antibiotic.

[Effect of imbrimycin on the body of animals].

Toxicity of imbrimycin administered orally and its local irritating effect was studied experimentally. Imbrimycin was diluted with flagosol for decreasing its local irritating effect on the mucosa of the eye conjunctiva and vagina of rabbits. Administration of imbrimycin suspension to albino rats in doses of 10 and 50 mg/kg for 14 days had no effect on the body weight, liver antitoxic function and pathomorphological indices. Oral administration of the drug to dogs in a dose of 10 mg/kg caused a decrease in the body weight, vomiting and diarrhea, had no effect on the dog blood picture and induced no pathomorphological changes in the inner organs. The local irritating effect of imbrimycin was found to be equal to that of azalomycin F. Flagosol significantly decreased the irritating effect of imbrimycin on the eye conjunctiva and the vagina mucosa.

[Isolation and study of the properties of the hemagglutinins produced by Streptomyces badius actinomycetes].

Hemagglutinin inducing polyagglutination of erythrocytes in the presence of the group blood sera was isolated from the supernatant of the culture fluid of Streptomyces badius 0626 by precipitation with ammonium sulfate and subsequent chromatography on Sephadex. Hemagglutinin proved to be a protein containing no lipid or carbohydrate components and possessing no bacterioagglutinating ability. Examination of the culture fluid supernatants of 150 cultures did not reveal any strains definitely exhibiting the transformation capability for human blood groups.
