[The study of a diagram of the dorsum of the tongue for determining individual identifying characteristics].

Patterns of the back of the tongue were studied in 80 normal subjects and 200 corpses of both sexes to detect the individual personality characteristics. A technique of impression making using alginate mass and plaster casts has been developed. A chart and arithmetic scheme is offered for accurate presentation of the number and localization of papillae. Study of the patterns of the mucosa of the back of the tongue revealed individual features in the structure of sulcated, foliated, fungiform, and filiform papillae, which may be significant in identification expert evaluation.

[Establishing the time of occurrence of mechanical trauma by the electrical conductivity parameters of skeletal muscles].

Presents the results of assessment of skeletal muscle electric conductivity parameters in various periods after an injury. Statistically reliable data were obtained indicating the possibility of establishing the period elapsed since infliction of a mechanical injury to skeletal muscles from parameters of active and reactive resistance at low and high frequencies. The fact that death occurred up to 72 h before virtually does not influence these parameters.

[The establishment of the mechanism of craniocerebral trauma by the nature of morphological substrates of brain contusions].

Analyzes the relationship between morphological features of foci of brain contusions and the mechanism of craniocerebral injury. Specifies the morphological signs of foci of brain contusions developing at the site of "strikes" and in foci of brain contusion forming in the zone of "counterattacks" and presents a quantitative evaluation thereof. The results of investigation may be useful for identifying the circumstances at which the injury was inflicted.

[Establishing the time of death by the constant of the reaction rate of spin-label reduction].

The rate of the spin probe reduction by tongue homogenates was measured on postmortem days 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 105, 135, 150, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225, and 240 in order to evaluate the possibility of determining the time of death by this test. The constant of the rate of phenol probe reduction by tongue homogenates was used as the diagnostic sign of the time elapsed since death. The results indicate that using this parameter, the time of death may be determined within the period from 4 to 8 months postmortem.

[The coordination of the forensic medical service with the medical criminology subdivisions of internal affairs organs in the personal identification of unidentified corpses].

In order to improve the cooperation between medical criminology departments of the organs of home affairs and forensic medical service in personality identification of unidentified corpses, the authors propose amendments to the routine procedure regulated by documents of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Russian Federation, for these documents are in need of serious correction and revision, so that they conform to the judicial legislation and other documents.

Cadaver↗

[An analysis of the errors in determining the time of death by cadaveric changes during the performance of the initial inquiry activities].

Analysis of 265 forensic medical expert conclusions on murdered subjects' corpses permitted us to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate the errors made by forensic medics examining the corpse at the site where it was found. In 23.4% of cases these errors were due to improper methodology of thanatometric investigations and were made by forensic medics of different length of service and qualification. Approaches to improving the diagnosis of time of death during the initial investigation are outlined.

Autopsy↗

[The clinico-morphological characteristics and expert assessment of intracranial parenchymatous hemorrhages in craniocerebral trauma].

The authors analyze the clinical and morphological manifestations of brain hemorrhages occurring in craniocerebral injuries in various periods after the trauma. Specific features in the diagnosis of various types of hemispheric and stem hemorrhages, quantitative parameters (involvement indexes), and the fundamentals of expert evaluation are presented, based on the comprehensive topographic and anatomical, pathomorphological, morphometric, statistical, and other studies.

[Forensic dental expertise on the maxillodental system of the remains of 9 persons from the Yekaterinburg burial].

Contribution of forensic dentistry to personality identification of unknown corpses at different stages of postmortem degradation is analyzed. Based on personality identification of bone remains of 9 subjects from Ekaterinburg burial, the authors demonstrate forensic stomatological studies of maxillodental system of skulls which were preserved, discuss the efficacy, reliability, and scientific validity of results.

[The evaluation of the mechanism of intracerebral parenchymatous hemorrhages under different types of dynamic loads on the brain].

Possible mechanisms of intracerebral hemorrhages in craniocerebral injuries are analyzed. Comprehensive pathomorphological, topographoanatomical, and expert studies helped the authors disclose the biophysical processes in the cranial cavity. These processes act as internal damaging factors and underlie the formation of intracerebral hemorrhages. The authors discuss the role of tension and cutting deformations of cerebral structures in development of cerebral hemorrhages and the significance of topographic and anatomic features of the base of the skull and discrete cavitation in cerebral tissue occurring in total deformations of the skull. Relationship between morphology and topography of intracerebral hemorrhages and the site of impact and direction of the damaging force is considered.
