Virgaureasaponin 3, a 3,28-bisdesmosidic triterpenoid saponin from Solidago virgaurea.

A new 3,28-bisdesmosidic triterpenoid glycoside was isolated from the mixture of deacylated saponins from the aerial parts of Solidago virgaurea. The structure of virgaureasaponin 3 was determined as 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1----3)-beta-D-glucopyranosylpolygalacic++ + acid 28-O-beta-D-fucopyranosyl-(1----2)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1----3)-beta -D- xylopyranosyl-(1----4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1----2)-beta-D-fucopyran oside mainly by various 2D NMR techniques.

[New triterpenoids saponins from Helianthus annuus].

Three new bisdesmosidic triterpenoid saponins, helianthoside 1(1), 2(2), and 3(3), were isolated from the flowers of Helianthus annuus L. and a new monodesmoside 4 was isolated after the cleavage of the ester-glycosidic linkages of 2 and 3. The structures of the compounds were elucidated by 13C-NMR, FAB-MS, GC/EI-MS of partially methylated alditol acetates and degradation methods.

[The antifungal action of polygalacic acid glycosides].

Triterpenoid glycosides obtained from Solidago virgaurea L. and Bellis perennis L. (Asteraceae) inhibit the growth of human-pathogenic yeasts (Candida and Cryptococcus species). First results are given of the investigations on the mode of action and the relationships between structure and activity of these compounds. The intensity of growth inhibition is influenced particularly by the carbohydrate chains of the glycosides. Monodesmosidic as well as bisdesmosidic glycosides of polygalacic acid exert fungicidic effects.

Antifungal Agents

[State after pancreatitis--as a clinico-pathological term (author's transl)].

Up to now, little attention has been paid in the clinical as well as in clinico-pathological systematics to the fibrotic "state after pancreatitis" (in its severest form called "cicatrical pancreas"). This state is of interest not only as an increased risk of a recurrent pancreatitis (including acute haemorrhagic pancreatitis), but as well as because of the severe pancreatographic changes, as they occur in (chronic) pancreatitis. In biopsy diagnoses of the pancreas the "cicatrical pancreas" also has to be taken into consideration as a life-long frequently inactive pancreatic disease. With respect to these questions 264 pancreases, among these a series of 144 random autopsy cases, were examined histologically and pancreatographically.

Chronic Disease

[Histological changes in the placenta following tokolysis therapy (author's transl)].

In 138 tokolytically treated cases of imminent abortion or premature birth the secundines were examined histologically and compared with 390 cases of pathological gravidities or births without tokolysis therapy. The frequency of occurrence of morphologically manifested circulatory disturbances following tokolysis therapy was equal to that in the untreated cases, the rate of ascendent infections was only slightly increased. In tokolytically treated placentas with the histological pattern of "dissociated disturbed maturation" and "Maturitias retarda" are prevailing. Thus in most cases sufficient supply of the fetus is possible and the critical phase of uteroplacental insufficiency with the danger of abortion or premature birth may be overcome. There were no hints at direct influences of tokolysis on placental morphology.

Abortion, Threatened

[Cytological finding in the pre- and early stages of cervix carcinoma--a contribution to the evaluation of Papanicolau III].

Cytologic findings and the histologic diagnosis are compared in 326 cervical cones. We have found following ratio of the groups Papanicolaou (Pap) III: Pap IV--in dysplasia 1: 1: 1, in "more dysplasia than carcinoma in situ (CIS)" 1:2:2. The Pap IV dominates in "pure" CIS and in cones with "more CIS than dysplasia". We take out of the Pap III ("with cytologic control") cases named "Pap III with necessity for histologic diagnosis". We have found in this subgroup of Pap III prestages or early stages of cervical carcinoma.

Carcinoma in Situ

[2-year analysis of the results of a screening program on computer basis for the detection of pre- and early stages of cervix carcinoma (model Rostock) (II)].

Two years experiences with a computer-assisted program for early detection of prestages and early cervical cancer in Rostock-city are reported. 65% = 27028 women finally cooperated. Pathological papsmears were found in 0,52%. 9 cases of severe dysplasia, 30 carcinomata in situ, 3 cases of early invasion, 3 micro- and 5 macrocarcinomas were observed. Accessory findings were seen in 10,2%.

Adult

[Histological diagnosis in aspiration curettage].

The techniques and diagnostic accuracies for histologic sampling of endometrial tissue after suction curettage performed on 161 patients are discussed. In 90% no tissue was retrieved by sharp curettage after suction curettage. Tissues with higher consistence like polyps were obtained only for 50%. However, it will be expected, that Crumbling tissues of cancer will be obtained.

Curettage

Comparative karyometric studies on small pseudolobuli and hepatomas in thioacetamide induced liver cirrhosis.

In the tumorous phase of TAA-induced cirrhosis of the liver comparative studies on the mitotic index, on the frequency of binucleated liver cells and on nuclear volume showed approximately similar values in the small pseudolobuli and in several hepatomas. Obviously "minimum deviation hepatomas" had developed. Decrease of ploidy characteristic for hepatomas was observed. In thioacetamide hepatomas the phenomenon of quadrupling of the cell nuclei due to dysfunctional nuclear edema occurred whereas the normal nuclei of liver cells can only double in volume in all phases of thioacetamide-intoxication. Particular karyometric aspects of the nuclear-nucleolar metabolism of hepatoma cells following thioacetamide intoxication are discussed.
