[Proposed technic of drainage tunneling in marsupialization of hydatid cysts of the hepatic cupula].

Even though the present tendency is to make use of radical operations, such as pericystectomy, hepatic resection and lobectomy, in the surgical management of hydatidosis of the liver, marsupialisation is still the method of choince in a large and clearly defined number of cases. While usually simple, this operation may prove difficult and complex when used on cysts of the cupola, since it may often be necessary to mobilise the liver to a large extent and employ damaging approach routes. A description is offered of a particular technique for tunnelling the desinage tube which considerably simplifies marsupialisation in cases of this kind.

Drainage

Globin mRNA sequences in polyadenylated and nonpolyadenylated nuclear precursor-messenger RNA from avian erythroblasts.

Nuclear RNA from immature duck erythrocytes was fractionated into polyadenylated and nonpolyadenylated fractions, and globin mRNA sequences were determined by hybridization to DNA complementary to globin mRNA. 80--90% of labeled nuclear RNA is found to be nonpolyadenylated, and 70--80% of the globin mRNA sequences present in the nucleus are found in nonpolyadenylated molecules. These data suggest that polyadenylation does not specifically select for globin mRNA sequences. The nonpolyadenylated globin mRNA sequences present in the nucleus are found mostly in molecules of small size, close to the size of polyribosomal globin mRNA, suggesting that polyadenylation is a later event in globin mRNA formation.

Animals

Simultaneous detection of reverse transcriptase and high molecular weight RNA in tissue of patients with Hodgkin's disease and patients with leukemia.

Complexes of high-molecular-weight RNA and reverse transcriptase (RNA-dependent DNA nucleotidyltransferase) have been detected in 14(77.8%) of 18 spleen from patients with Hodgkin's disease and in all samples tested of peripheral leukocytes and spleens from leukemic patients. The enzyme and its template are localized in a particle having a density between 1.16 and 1.19 g/ml. These observations describe characteristic features of RNA tumor viruses.

Hodgkin Disease

In vitro effects of bencyclan on coagulation, fibrinolysis and platelet function.

The in vitro effects of N-3-(1-benzyl-cycloheptyloxy)-propyl-N,N-dimethylammonium-hydrogenfumarate (bencyclan) on clotting, fibrinolytic and platelet function test were investigated by adding the drug to normal human plasma. An anticoagulant activity, mainly of an antithromboplastin nature (directed against later stages of intrinsic thromboplastin formation and against tissue thromboplastin), was observed, while thrombin phase was unaffected. No effect was found in the fibrinolytic system tested (euglobulin lysis, UK-activated fibrinolysis, "hanging clot" method). The drug, although capable of aggregating platelets by itself at very high concentrations, showed a striking inhibitory effect, over a wide range of concentrations, both on platelet aggregation induced by ADP, epinephrine or collagen and on platelet adhesiveness to glass or collagen. Clot retraction was also clearly inhibited. PF3 availability was influenced with a peculiar two-phase behaviour dose-dependently. High concentrations showed a promoting action, while the lower were obviously inhibitory. It is suggested that the effects on platelet function may be due to an influence of the drug on cell membrane.
