[Structures ensuring blood flow control in the vessels of microcirculatory bed].

The aim of this study was to investigate the morpho-functional mechanisms of blood flow regulation in the vessels of the microcirculatory bed in various organs of man and animals (rabbitts and dogs). Ranvier's and Rasskazova's methods of silver nitrate impregnation, histological section staining with hematoxylin-eosin and after van Gieson, Gomori's method for demonstration of acid and alkaline phosphomonoesterases were used to detect the presence of the structures within the vessels of the microcirculatory bed that are capable of changing the blood flow through their lumen. These mechanisms can be temporary, and their activity is associated with the functional state of the endothelium (presence of microprojections, endotheliocyte swelling, changes of endotheliocyte orientation and laminar surface size). Permanent structures are located in microvessel walls (sphincters) and they possess high activity of acid and alkaline phosphomonoesterses. Arteriolar-venular anostomoses, direct transition of arterioles into the venules and peculiarities of microvessel branching are also attributed to the mechanisms of blood redistribution. Under pathological conditions some additional structures may develop that include polyp-like structures in capillaries and venules, intimal cushions, ampule-like expansions of the arterioles, varicose widening of venular orifices and vascular glomeruli.

[Rat spleen cellular composition after water baths].

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of fresh water baths on rat spleen structural components (lymphoid nodules with or without germinal centers, periarterial lymphoid sheaths and splenic cords). Experiments included the submersion of the cages with outbred albino male rats into the baths containing fresh water at 36-37 degrees C. Histological analysis has shown the changes of cytoarchitectonics in all the splenic structures studied. The number of cells per unit area in the germinal centers of lymphoid nodules was decreased, while that one in the periarterial lymphoid sheaths was increased. The number of disintegrating cells in the splenic cords was found to be reduced. The major effect of fresh water baths on spleen parenchyma was the uniform increase in plasma cell content in all the structural components of the organ. These changes may indicate the activation of humoral immunity.

Functional morphology of blind and other processes in the lymph capillary system.

"Blind" lymph capillaries of the diaphragmatic tendon center were studied in normal rabbits and after injections of India ink, yellow cadmium, chicken erythrocyte suspensions, and whole chicken blood into the abdominal cavity. Three groups of blind capillaries differing by morphological and functional signs were distinguished. Some blind capillaries can deposit foreign particles. The process of intracapillary endothelial growth is described.

[Functional significance of "blind" outgrowths of the lymphatic capillary network].

The work was aimed at the study of the structural peculiarities of "blind" outgrowths of the lymphatic capillaries and to define their role in the pathogenesis of some diseases. In experiments performed in rabbits by studying the resorption of colloidal solutions, suspensions and hen's blood the subsidiary functional significance of the portion of "blind" outgrowths of the lymphatic capillary network of tendinous center of diaphragm was established. The clavate outgrowths with the narrow mouth may accumulate and store the exogenous material in their lumen. It is concluded that they may accumulate the microorganisms that provoke the relapses of diseases.

[Cytoarchitechtonics of the lymphoid tissue associated with the cecum wall in man in adolescence].

Cytoarchitectonics of lymphoid nodules (including apex, central zone and basis) and mucosal lamina propria cellular composition were studied in histological sections of cecum wall (dome area) in adolescents aged 12-16 years. It is shown that within lymphoid nodules the lowest cell concentration per unit section area is found in the apical area. The latter is also a region containing significant number of plasma cells. Apparent rarefication of cells in the central part of lymphoid nodules, high content of eosinophils, plasma cells and macrophages, increased cell destruction in lamina propria of cecal mucosa collectively indicate the changes in barrier function in intestinal wall of adolescents. Timing of these changes coincides with hormonal reorganization of the whole organism.

[Lymphoid structures and their cellular content in the cecum in 1-3 years old children (early childhood)].

In 1-3 Ys old children (early childhood) coecal lymphoid nodules are well developed with lymphatic capillaries and high endothelium venules in their base. The highest concentration of lymphoid cells is also noted there. In the apical zone, central part and nodule base cellular content has certain features. Lamina propria of the coecal mucosa contains great number of plasmic cells.

[Cellular content of the cecal mucosa in children].

The study of cytoarchitecture of lamina propria of coecal mucosa in children (newborns, in first childhood) demonstrated peculiarities reorganization of cellular content proportional to the age. Pre-term newborns (born at 7.5 months) coecum showed 3 types of cells:stromal (fibroblasts, fibrocytes and reticulocytes), lymphocytes and eosinophilic granulocytes. In full-term newborns coecum lymphocyte number increases, destroying cells, macrophages and scanty mitotically dividing cells appear. In age cells presented in mucosal lamina propria are more variable. In first weeks after birth plasmic cells appear, reaching maximum of their number by the age of 7 months. Plasmic cells number is irreversibly proportional to eosinophilic granulocytes number that are most numerous (30%) during first postnatal month. The most active reorganization of cellular content of lamina propria of coecal mucosa occurs at the age of 5-6 months. In early childhood accumulation of lymphocytes in mucosa continues. Absolute values of plasmic cells remain unchanged. Eosinophilic granulocytes number increases 3.5 fold, destructive processes in cells become more intense. No mitosis were observed.

[Morphological characteristics of the lymphoid tissues in the newborn children].

Quantitative and qualitative analysis and statistical processing of thymus, trachea, duodenum ileum, coecum and appendix in newborns demonstrated that by the moment of birth peripheral immunogenesis organs were not equally formed due to peculiarities of their function in postnatal ontogenesis. Lymphoid nodules were absent in tracheal mucosa and adjacent lymph nodes showed loss of lymphoid noules aswell. However intensive formation of lymphoid structures took place in the walls of the gut, especially large intestine. The appendix, lymphoid tissue of which was not, in fact, developed at all, made an exception.

[The cecum lymphoid structure in preterm and full term newborns].

Cellular content of lymphoid structures of coecum of full term and premature newborns was studied by means of quantitative and qualitative statistic analysis. Re-distribution of cells leading to decrease of cell concentration in lymph nodules at the portion overlooking lumen of the coecum and in contrary, to growth of cell number in nodule base was shown to occur within lymphoid nodules in terms from 7.5 months up to birth. By the moment of birth proportion of small lymphocytes in the nodules decreases while the proportion of medium lymphocytes and plasma cells grows higher. The number of granulocytes, macrophages and destroying cells increases as well. Blasts appear and the number of large lymphocytes grow higher. The studies demonstrate that development of lymphoid structures of premature newborns is not completed and thus they are less prepared to the contact with food antigens by the moment of birth.

[Lymphoid tissue in the wall of adult human gallbladder].

Lymphoid structures of mucosa and muscular coat from the gall bladder cervix, body and fornix were examined in histological preparations using morphometry and methods of variation statistics. Lymphocyte concentration in the organ walls grows proportionally to age. In the first period of maturity lymphoid nodules are absent in mucosal lamina propria while lymphoid nodules are rarely encountered among the cells of the fibroblastic series. Connective tissue layers of muscular coat are predominant sites of lymphoid aggregations. Senescence is characterised by the appearance of lymphoid nodules in the gall bladder mucosa. Cell concentration, structure and composition per unit area depend on nodule localization and the age of the individual.

[Comparative characteristics of cellular composition of the lymphoid structure of various regions of the human intestine in early childhood].

Using microscopic methods and statistic analysis lymphoid structures of large and small intestine walls and appendix were studied in 4-7 years children. The highest cell reproductive activity was detected in duodenal walls being slightly lower in appendix and group lymphoid vessels. The highest ratio of plasma cells was found in duodenum, ileal lymphoid patches and cecum, where the index was 7-fold higher than index of appendix and ileum. Lamina propria of intestinal mucosa is characterized by small fraction of mitotically dividing cells and undifferentiated cell forms, especially in cecum walls. However, the latter shows the greatest percentage of plasma cells.

[The endotheliocytes of the lymphatic capillary and their motor activity].

Endotheliocytes of lymphatic capillaries of different configuration were studied in total preparations of central tendon of diaphragm in rabbits. Between different cell types there are transitional forms. Argyrophilic structures in the form of loops, hooks and rods, located inside the endotheliocytes but linked with intercellular borders were described. The data obtained allowed to conclude the presence of motor activity of lymphatic capillaries endotheliocytes associated with change of their shape and border length along the cell perimeter. Endotheliocyte motor activity sharply increases in aseptic inflammation. Different endotheliocyte configuration and their perimeter length are dependent on the lymphatic capillaries resorptive activity.

[The effect of physical loads of differing intensities on the lymphoid tissue elements of the thymus and spleen].

The amounts of blast, large lymphocytes and mitotically divided cells were histologically and morphometrically studied in the thymus and spleen in 24 BALB/c female mice during exercises of varying intensity which were induced by swimming and during restricted mobility. The latter was found to cause a greater increase in the above cells in the spleen. The similar changes, though less pronounced, were noted in the thymus during intensive exercises. Moderate exercises and restricted mobility led to a reduction of the number of divided cells in the thymus, but doubled blasts and large lymphocytes.

[Cellular composition of tracheal lymphoid tissue in children in their first year of life].

By means of morphometrical methods in histological preparations the quantitative relations of various cell types of lymphoid formations has been studied in newborns and in suckling children. The trachea in the newborns practically does not possess any morphological substrate in the form of lymphoid accumulations, responsible for immune defense of the organ from any external influence. Development of the lymphoid tissue begins in the suckling age and its cytoarchitectonics depends on their localization in the organ's wall. A special place among the accumulations of the lymphoid cells occupy connective tissue spaces of the tracheal glands, where besides lymphocytes and fibroblasts a great amount of plasma cells is situated. Under epithelium these cells are in the least amount, in the prenoduli they are of an intermediate amount. In all the lymphoid structures investigated reproductive function is absent; this is proved by absence of blasts and mitotically dividing cells. Increase in amount of the tracheal lymphoid formations in all age groups studied takes place at the expense of cells migration across blood vessels.
