A modification of the Carter method for preparing tissue blocks for cryostat sectioning is presented. One problem with the Carter method is that tissue edges occasionally freeze above the plane of the smooth cryostat disk. My modification avoids this problem by gradual liquid nitrogen cooling of the disk. This enables all tissue edges to be applied to the smooth disk surface until freeze adherence occurs.

Steri-Strips remained on the skin of twenty volunteers two and one-half times longer than Clearon Skin Closures. Various methods of preparing the skin before application of the adhesive strips did not alter the duration of adhesion of either Steri-Strips or Clearon. From the standpoint of duration of adhesiveness, Steri-Strips appear superior to Clearon as a surgical wound closure.

Two patients had limited necrotizing fascilitis. The morbidity and mortality from this infectious necrotizing process of the superficial fascia have not changed significantly since its initial description in 1924. The characteristic clinical findings of necrotizing fascilitis makes early recognition possible. Within 24 to 48 hours, redness, pain, and edema rapidly progress to central patches of dusky blue discoloration, with or without serosanguineous blisters. By the fourth or fifth day, these purple areas become gangrenous. Although necrotizing fascilities originally was associated exclusively with beta-hemolytic Streptococcus, recent cases have shown a variety of bacteria. The essential treatment remains wide local surgical débridement.
