[Amiodarone-induced skin pigmentation].

Amiodarone (Cordarone) is used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. A blue-grey skin pigmentation appears after long term use or a high concentration of amiodarone. Two cases are described. Histopathological findings of skin punch biopsies from the face showed collections of yellow-brown granula pigment within histiocytes throughout the dermis. Sunlight initiates accumulation of the pigment. It is recommended to use sunprotection to avoid the pigmentation.

Comedo formation following cobalt irradiation.

After cobalt-60 therapy 3 patients developed open and closed comedones in the face corresponding to the treatment fields. Biopsies showed extensive dermal elastotic material. It is suggested that the elastotic fibres may contribute to a change in the supporting function of the dermis and a secondary sebum retention and comedo formation.

Acne Vulgaris↗

Bullous dermatosis among patients with chronic renal failure of high dose frusemide.

Twelve of 56 patients with chronic renal failure, all treated with frusemide (Lasix) in daily doses of 0.5-2 g, developed bullae in areas exposed to light. In most cases the bullae developed during summer months and disappeared later in the year whether the frusemide treatment was continued or not. In two patients the eruption reappeared when treatment was resumed. Disturbance of the porphyrin metabolism was not found, neither could a change in the frusemide metabolism be demonstrated. Tissue typing and blood groups showed no difference from the average population. It is concluded that the condition presumably is a photo reaction due to the frusemide treatment but it cannot be said whether it is allergic or toxic.

Adult↗

Acrogeria. A case report.

A case of acrogeria in a 12-year-old girl is reported. Acrogeria is a rare, nonhereditary, probably congenital disease of which the main characteristic is an atrophy of the skin giving it an aged appearance. The defect is localized to the dermis and subcutis, whereas, the epidermis seems not to be affected. The disease might be associated with other congenital malformations.

Atrophy↗

Investigations for skin antibodies in malignant neoplasms.

A group of 451 patients with various malignant neoplasms was investigated for the presence of antibodies against the intercellular substance in epidermis and against the basement membrane in the skin, using the immunofluorescence method. None of the patients had bullous disease. Circulating basement membrane antibodies were found in a 63-year-old man with lung cancer. None of the patients had antibodies against the intercellular substance. No in vivo bound intercellular or basement membrane antibodies were found.
