[Rib duplication].

Fluorographic examination under roentgenographic control of 400,000 persons revealed rib doubling to be the rarest anomaly--3 cases (approximately, one case per 133,000 examined) and semi-doubling ribs--2 cases (1:200,000); in literature only one case of the right third rib doubling (P. V. Yashunin, 1936) is described. Our cases of rib doubling are: the third, left; the fourth, left and the only case of neighbouring ribs doubling--the first and second, left; semi-doubling: the third, left (demonstrated) and the fifth, left.

Humans

[Transitional forms of the cervical and first ribs].

The upper ribs possessing the signs of both cervical and first ribs (such as the size, conjunction with the sternum, dilatation of the superior intercostal spaces, double width and others) are the intermediate forms. Small dimension fluorography of 400.000 humans with roentgenographical control has revealed 468 persons with transitional forms of cervical and first ribs (0,12%), i. e. one case per 800 humans at an average. Transitional forms of cervical and first ribs can be grouped as follows: asymmetry of clavicles, asymmetry of the upper ribs, close position of the upper ribs, double width of the first ribs, conjunction of the cervical and first ribs at the vertebrum.

Clavicle

[Atypical ossification of anomalous ribs].

Atypical ossifications of anomalous ribs were found in 22 cases of 400.000 fluorograms with rentgenological control (0,005% or 1:18.000). Among them there were 15 cases on the right side, 6--on the left and one bilateral case in the third ribs. The fourth ribs were altered more frequently (12) and the fifth one--less frequently (9). Atypical ossifications were observed only in forked bifurcations of anterior ends which may serve as one of differential diagnostical signs for distinguishing them from other pathological changes.
