[Enzymatic activity of the lymphocytes in gnotobionts in adenovirus infection].

The cytochemical activity of succinate dehydrogenases, alpha-glycerophosphate (mitochondrial and hyaloplasmic), lactate, glycose-6-phosphate, glutamate, beta-oxibutyrate, NADP-H2- and NAD-H2 diaphorases and acid phosphatase was studied in lymphocytes of gnotobiotic guinea-pigs infected with human adenovirus type 1. The analysis of transgression of distribution of the values in the experimental and control groups revealed a high informative diagnostic value of acid phosphatase and lactate dehydrogenase of lymphocytes.

[The outlook for the development of the immunodiagnostic and immunoprophylactic trends in parasitology].

The current state of immunodiagnostic and immunopreventive trends in parasitology and prospects for their development are analysed. The prospects of immunodiagnosis seem to be in increased sensitivity and specificity of tests by improving the methods and using the achievements of biotechnology in the manufacturing of high quality antigenic and antibody reagents. The development of immunoprevention of parasitoses can be stimulated by further studies of the mechanisms of a protective immune response, ways of its enhancement, search for natural and design of synthetic protective antigens and elaboration of new methods of their biological transport. The importance of the studies of local immunity phenomena is stressed for the development of new effective methods of immunodiagnosis and immunoprevention of socially valuable human parasitoses.

[The dynamic activity of lymphocyte succinate dehydrogenase and its correlations in experimental malaria].

Succinic dehydrogenase (SDH) activity in peripheral blood lymphocytes has been studied in progressing experimental malaria on a P. yoelii model, the strain 265 BY; the multinipple rats Mastomys natalensis. Cytochemical method employing n-nitrotetrazolium violet was used. Comparative analysis of changes in SDG activity in peripheral blood lymphocytes and changes in the level of parasitemia has demonstrated that day 10 was a critical period when there was an evident inverse correlation between the qualitative parameters. The findings give evidence of SDH participation in an adequate response of immunocompetent cells to malaria infection, thus leading to recovery.

[Cytochemical study of granulocyte enzymes in germ-free animals with adenovirus infections].

The activity of some dehydrogenases and hydrolases was studied by cytochemical methods in the peripheral blood neutrophils of germ-free guinea pigs infected with adenoviruses. The gnotobiotic animals were obtained by hysterotomy in an operation isolation room after which they were transferred into manipulation isolation room and infected with human adenovirus type 1. A depression of enzymes of alpha-glycerophosphate shunt and NADP-H2-diaphorase in neutrophils two days after infection and activation of lactate dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase at 4 days were demonstrated. The pattern of changes in the enzymatic status of intact and infected gnotobiotic animals allowed a diagnosis of adenovirus infection in most cases.

[Effect of different diets on blood protein indices in gnotobionts].

The protein content in the diet affects the amount of serum protein and fraction distribution in gnotobiots. Germ-free pigs and guinea-pigs which received the diet containing the least amount of protein showed an abrupt decrease in the total protein level in blood serum. As regards the content of alpha- and beta-globulins, no significant differences were found in blood serum of experimental animals. The amount of alpha-blobulin in germ-free animals which received the protein-deficient diet was 1 1/2-2 times higher than in those which received protein in an amount meeting the physiological requirements. It was established that 4-8% of protein in the diet of 2-month-old germ-free pigs and 14-18% in the diet of germ-free guinea-pigs favour the normal growth and development of experimental animals.

[A dynamic study of the immune response of the population in a focus of hydatid disease in Dzhambul Province, Kazakhstan].

Screening for hydatid disease in foci should be carried out making use of the two most effective immunologic methods, indirect hemagglutination (IHA) and enzyme immunoassay (EIA). In order to have more reliable data on the structure of infection focus and for an earlier detection of patients such studies should be carried out over time and be followed by clinical examinations of subjects in whom anti-Echinococcus antibodies are repeatedly detected in epidemiologically significant and higher titers in IHA and/or EIA. All seropositive subjects and patients operated on for hydatid disease should be followed up.
